U.S. Embassy Prepares for Possible Evacuation as Militants Take Control in Iraq
The Blaze ^ | Wednesday, June 11, 2014 | Sara Carter

The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad is preparing contingency plans to evacuate its employees if necessary now that one of the deadliest Islamic militant groups in the region has taken control of large swaths of Iraq, a U.S. official told TheBlaze.

The State Department also warned U.S. citizens against traveling to Iraq, following several days of bloody clashes between insurgents with the Al Qaeda-inspired Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and Iraqi military forces. ISIL has taken control of Mosul, Tikrit and Fallujah and aims to create an Islamic state across the Iraq-Syria border.

The U.S. official told TheBlaze that the U.S. Embassy, United Nations and other foreign organizations with a presence in Iraq are “preparing contingency plans to evacuate employees.”

In the words of that great poet and philosopher William Joel:

You may be wrong, but for all I know you maybe right

We are all just human. We don’t know everything. The difference is that limited government conservatives understand the limits of human understanding and good intentions and want to limit their jackass neighbors control over their life. In the meantime statists don’t believe in God, they think they are God.

I agree except they were warring with each other way before the collapse Of the Ottoman Empire.

I guess this is the massive multi billion dollar US embassy that is going to become housing and fortification for the Isslamic murdering thugs in Iraq. A new Saddam will emerge out of that hell hole. Thousands of US troops killed for nothing. Reminds me of my Vietnam days. Same US weak spined government giving it all to the enemy. Dimocrats did it then. They are doing it again now.

So you would have us remain in there for the past 6 years and now caught in the middle of this mess?

We should have nuked them into orbit in the first place. Then we wouldn't have this mess.

Well, well, well. If anyone is taken hostage will we leave them behind or attempt to trade Ted Cruz for them?

Nope. A tweet will do just fine.

I can’t tell you how many serious arguments I went through in 2003 over a beer with my “let’s go to war cake walk in Iraq buddies” and make a new democracy. We’re still buddies and they tend to be more mellow now and understand that conservatism is not blindly waging war and selling out our economy to China, but keeping our nation sovereign and economically strong and creating opportunities for every American willing to produce.

Open borders only reduces and dilutes opportunities for Americans. My biggest concern is the same conniving thieves that created the Iraq fiasco will turn Americans against each other and purposely create
anarchy. They are experts at brainwashing clueless people.

Too many conservatives have allowed the thieving lying politicians and media corporatists to define their beliefs.

We would not be in the middle of this mess if we still had troop presence. People had returned to the cities, and a sense of normalcy had returned. And, at that time, Al Qa'ida in Iraq was on the run and their ability to conduct operations was largely broken.

The insurgents had lost the favor of the people and popular support was mostly with Coalition Forces. An insurgency NEEDS public support to survive. In Iraq, people had enough and they were killing the terrorists.....they had plenty of bravado because Uncle Sam's kinfolk were just down the road.

I was there when the talks of cut and run started their steady drumbeat and Iraqi after Iraqi came strolling in begging us not to go because......well, what is happening now would happen.

We had proved that with patience and a strong will, we could defeat terrorism even if it were state sponsored and entrenched. Not only could we remove a dictator, homegrown terrorists (the fedayeen), and imported foreign fighters, but we could win on "their" turf. We also provided a "flypaper" for the worthless flies on humanity's sh#t pile to land and die.....rather than a concerted effort to attack us at home.

Further, with bases in Iraq and Afghanistan, it gave us strategic positioning in the region - e.g. we had Iran's flanks with bombers, re-fuellers, tanks, and mass numbers of troops on station. And, with Iraq and Afghanistan "ours" we didn't have to worry about requesting permission for airspace (like the initial stages of OIF/OEF). The Iranians could saber rattle all they wanted to, but at the end of the day those troops and munitions proved a pretty strong deference as any day, Operation Persian Freedom could commence with just an order to close the noose.

We spent almost 3/4 of a century maintaining strategic presence and security in Europe, Korea, and Japan.

We are still in Germany, Korea, and Japan. All three have democratic governments, peace, stability, prosperity, and are allies. We also have forward staging areas that enable us defense from threats "over there," while the threats are still "over there."

Vietnam - we cut and ran and thousands of people died and/or live in poverty. You are seeing the same thing play out in Iraq, and will soon see it play out in Afghanistan.

And then, with the "successes" of the "Arab Springs," and the fall of IRQ and AFG.....you'll see the real fun begin. Just wait until the jihadis get settled in IRQ and AFG, because God help us all when Saudi (short trip through the desert from IRQ) and Pakistan (right on the other side of Torkam Gate; and the Paks have never one a war) fall.

Our best hope right now without re-securing Iraq, is that we can supply the resistance in Syria, while the Russians and Iranians arm 'Assad that the slow bleed takes some of the fight out of the jihadis until we can get someone in the White House that doesn't have their head up their ass and some Joint Chiefs with testicles.

And it isn't like I'd be asking anyone to do what I was unwilling to do....I spent four tours in Iraq - two after I was wounded.

Exactly, right? Just like Viet Nam: when the North violated the peace treaty, the Dems refused to stand behind our commitments to arm the South.

Now, in schools, it is taught that the war was “lost”.

Another foreign policy disaster under obama.

If a convervative was president, this would not have happened because we would not have left iraq prematurely.

Our soldiers got a raw deal.

At least Vietnam was a battle in a larger geo-political war, and it did show the Soviets that they weren’t just going to go into the Third World and take over all of those countries without a fight, those deaths weren’t in vain, because it was a factor that ultimately led to the Fall of the Wall, even though the Communists ultimately prevailed in Vietnam.

Looking now at Iraq, it wasn’t worth the death of a single Buck Private.

Obama had better leave some Americans there so he can trade the rest of the Gitmo detainees away.

He should just leave a few liberals to trade for. That way he will still be up to par with his terrorist-for-traitor standards.

“Obama negotiates with the Taliban, trading a traitor for five top terrorists. Within two weeks, we start to lose a nation that Bush liberated.”

Yep. And large numbers of arrogant liberals are responsible, and have blood on their hands. There is no gentler way to put this. I saw video footage of refugees from Mosul, and there was a beautiful little girl there, with wide innocent eyes, stuck in the crossfire of these ideological idiots. Meanwhile, our ideological idiots here, who think that they are intellectually superior because they are ‘progressives’, have failed that little girl, among millions and millions of others. Again, that is the gentlest way to put this.
