It’s got somedthing to do with promoting the establishment, that’s for sure.

IN other words, Cantor refuses to resign before the end of the session.

I can think of several I’d like to see try for it .. but I certainly don’t want the next guy in line .. who I’m sure is Boehner’s choice.

I read somewhere he said he’ll step down as Majority Leader on July 31.

He didn’t resign from the Congress but he did resign
from the Leadership role effective July 31, 2104.

They probably want to get an establishment republican in the role, so that republican will be an incumbent in the roll when the new senators take their seats.

"He didnt resign from the Congress but he did resign from the Leadership role effective July 31, 2104." That's pretty optimistic for him to think he will stick around that long.

It will be a contest between “the next guy in line”, the liberal McCarthy, and two conservative Texans: Hensarling and Sessions.
I kinda hope McCarthy is forced upon us so next year Boehner and his whole team gets thrown out.
Most likely though one of the Texans will get it to unify the caucus.

Well if Hensarling got the job then Boehner and the rest of his team may be able to hang on next year.
If he twists arms and trades favors to get McCarthy the job I think he will anger too many conservatives to win next year.
Hmmm, and there’s the Senate RINOs: they don’t want a conservative House blocking their plans next year. They’d do a lot to keep Boehner Speaker and to avoid any risk of losing him.
...Fun stuff LOL!

Sessions (Pete, not Jeff) is as much a supporter of amnesty as Cantor.
