AP just called the race for Brat in the VA-7 race.
But, but, but....they said the Tea Party was dead!!!!
>>Some voters in VA-9 dont like Jews.
Oh puh-leeze. They’re probably almost all Democrats. They’re the ones always supporting the Palis over Israel.
Cantor’s religion isn’t even in the top 5 for the reasons for his loss here, and implying that it is, is ridiculous. If you’re going to make assertions like that, you’re going to have to back them up with something resembling an argument.
Wrong.
Pls see my # 135.
Leni
Outspent over $20 to 1.
That’s what motivated grassroots can do.
I am still trying to absorb it all. Simply amazing.
Thank you God!!
Cantor didn’t even congratulate Brat on his win or officially concede. Rumors swirling that he’s going to mount a write-in campaign.
Good God Almighty. Cantor lost by a wide margin on a relatively high turnout primary. Give it up. You were rejected. Time to cash in on all your political contacts and make even MORE money.
Pat Mullins, the chair of the VA GOP was there last night at Brat’s victory party (as was I). He pledged the full support of the party to help Brat win in November.
Time will tell if that was a sincere promise or just for the TV cameras.
Perfect!!! Love it!
My thanks to each of you for your replies. Attacking republicans as ‘extremists’ is standard Demo play book, thus I take that for granted. I heard a bit of commentary this morning that Brat got out and did his ground work in meeting the people and presenting his ideas and how he would listen to them; something Cantor stopped doing ‘years ago.’
Again, my thanks. And here is hoping that his victory will shake a few GOP-e heads.
I also heard that Ed Gillispe came out with big congratulation to him shortly after the win was declared
It also shows that in an individual district where any shinanigans can be seen, the outcome can’t be affected by voter fraud....
I know, a little early for paranoia but this VA voter refuses to believe O’bozo and McAwful’s wins weren’t determined by well-orchestrated fraud....
I live in VA-7. I have met Dave Brat a couple of times. I worked for him. I gave him a fair bit of money. I feel some ownership in this.
That being said, Dave is running on the Republican creed. Free markets, equal treatment under the law, limited government - the powers not delegated to the feds belong to the state or to the people, a strong defense (he always complimented Cantor on his strong support of defense), and a strong moral Judeo-Christian foundation. He actually says the words “Judeo-Christian foundation” repeatedly in his stump speech.
Yes, he could go all Cantor on us down the road. But his stated goal is to serve, try to right the ship of state and go back to his life. Cantor’s goal was always to be Speaker. Period. To me, that is rather important.
Time will tell. Meanwhile, I’m going to do what I can to help Dave.
JMHO.
Sad to say, but your are right.
Cantor’s concession speech did not include congratulating Brat or vowing to unite the party and help Brat win.
In fact, Cantor fled from his post-election ‘celebration’ venue after his speech and ran back to DC. Furthermore, Cantor wasn’t even in RVA yesterday morning - he met with a bunch of K Street cronied and political fat cats before he showed up down here. For that alone, he deserved to lose.
There are some rumors that Cantor is going to mount a write-in campaign. We’ll see. I hope not. That’s really going all Bill Bolling on us.
I am uncertain whether Cantor will maintain a low profile until January or if he will have his vengeance on us and do a lot of crap while he is in lame duck status.
I think there was some. I’m not sure if it made the difference. I’ll know more on that later today.
That is true. Brat has stated that a couple of times.
Jenny Beth Martin can kiss my ass.
He may be an academic but he has been involved in local GOP politics for a long time. He’s not a total neophyte.
So the real question...... Did the GOPe get the message?
Death to the establishment awesomesauce!
Not one damn nickel from the national TPP orgs.
Screw you, Jenny Beth Martin. You and your $450K annual salary.
Brat is much more of a Reagan conservative than an Ayn Rand objectivist. He was very clear last night at the victory party that his win was a miracle from God. His stump speech always references the need for going back to our Judeo-Christian foundation.
I don’t live in VA, so I’ve been reading more about Brat, and he really sounds solid and actually seems to have some new approaches or perhaps new focuses for the standard GOP platform ideas. Of course, I thought that about Cantor, too, initially - I don’t know what happened to him.
And even if you get only a couple of good years out of Brat and he goes Cantor, that’s still a couple of good years!
Bullshit.
