Arne Duncan Threatens Entire State Of Oklahoma Because State Backed Out Of Common Core
The Daily Caller ^ | 6/10/2014 | Eric Owens

Posted on 06/10/2014 8:48:03 AM PDT by Academiadotorg

Thursday marked a high point for opponents of Common Core, as Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin signed legislation making her state the third to ditch the national educational standards. In a press briefing at the White House on Monday, though, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan struck back by vaguely suggesting that the federal government may now punish Oklahoma. Duncan asserted that “40 percent of high school graduates” in Oklahoma “have to take remedial classes when they go to college” and only “25 percent of Oklahoma’s eighth-graders in math are proficient.” The Obama administration education chief declared that the Common Core Standards Initiative is a panacea for this problem. “We got a dropout problem we got to deal with,” Duncan said. “We want to make sure our high school graduates aren’t having to take remedial classes, burn up Pell grants, burn up student loans taking non-credit bearing. And right now, roughly 40 percent of those graduates in Oklahoma are having to do that. We don’t think that’s good for those young people, their families, or for the country.” Duncan had ominous words for states that buck the Common Core trend. “We partner with states whether they’re in Common Core or have their own high standards. But where we will challenge status quo is when states dummy down standards,” he warned. The education secretary noted that Fallin, The Sooner State governor, had defended Common Core up until a few weeks before she signed the bill eliminating Common Core and immediately reverting back to older tests and standards. “If you go back to just a couple of months ago,” the education secretary said, “This is what Gov. Fallin said about higher standards – I’m quoting her –she said, ‘The standards’ – and I quote – “outline what students need to be college- and career-ready.’” Duncan blamed the administration of George W. Bush for decreased “college- and career-ready” standards. “What we’re reacting to, as you guys may remember under No Child Left Behind – it’s not the intent – but we had about 20 states actually dummy down their standards to make politicians look good,” he said. Oklahoma’s anti-Common Core bill passed the state legislature with veto-proof majorities, but Fallin could have killed the bill for at least a year with a veto. She chose to kill Common Core instead. (RELATED: Fallin Gives In, Kills Common Core In Oklahoma) “Unfortunately, federal overreach has tainted Common Core,” Fallin said in a statement. “President [Barack] Obama and Washington bureaucrats have usurped Common Core in an attempt to influence state education standards. The results are predictable. What should have been a bipartisan policy is now widely regarded as the president’s plan to establish federal control of curricula, testing and teaching strategies.” In November, Duncan insisted that “white suburban moms” are to blame for the unrelenting opposition to Common Core standards. (RELATED: Arne Duncan blames irrational angst of ‘white suburban moms’ for Common Core pushback) In the fall, for the first time, most states and the District of Columbia began implementing Common Core, which attempts to standardize various K-12 curricula around the country. South Carolina moved to phase out the standards a few days before Oklahoma did. Indiana pulled out earlier this year.

“We got a dropout problem we got to deal with,” Duncan said.

Sounding like a dropout oneself isn't exactly confidence-inspiring, Mr. Duncan.

““We got a dropout problem we got to deal with,” Duncan said.”

Apparently, good old Arne didn’t attend English class with Mrs. Thelma Hill or Mrs. Frances Walker.

I would just as soon that the dolts in DC not be able to have any influence on what my child is taught

" Duncan asserted that “40 percent of high school graduates” in Oklahoma “have to take remedial classes when they go to college” and only “25 percent of Oklahoma’s eighth-graders in math are proficient.” "

So what are the scores from CA, MA, and MI?

California has been working on separating children from parental help for years. I remember trying to help my daughter with algebra and couldn’t do it because the text book did not include any examples. First of all 40% was a passing grade, so you know that the teacher wasn’t doing even an acceptable job of teaching in the classroom.

I had to go out and buy a different text book to use to teach the algebra because if she didn’t get it in the classroom, she wasn’t going to be able to get it at home. I figured out too late that most of the top students had algebra and language tutors that come to their home to re-teach what the school did not.

Good points - we must not lose sight that the existing curriculum for math and reading stinks as well and that’s why many don’t do as well as they should/could. Common Core takes the Bad and makes it much Worse. THIS IS INTENTIONAL!

My husband looked over at my computer and saw this article. He asked if I had written all that. I said no, it would have had paragraphs if I had written it.

Yes, it is intentional. Common Core is meant to make education equally difficult for all students.

I bought a book for my nephew too, on ebay, so he’d have something to refer to when he was stuck.

I saw my 9 year old granddaughter,in California, reduced to tears over her Math homework. My 12 year old grandson, here in MA. is one of those lucky people that can look at a math problem and figure it out in his head. He doesn’t find the “new Math” difficult just a waste of time.

Arne Duncan - Obama appointed Duncan due to his alleged success as CEO of Chicago’s public schools. However, in 2007, only 10% of black 4th graders in Chicago reached the proficiency level in reading and for black 8th graders, only 9% reached reading proficiency. In math, only 8% of black students reached proficiency in 4th grade and just 6% reached proficiency in 8th grade. This was the disappointing outcome, despite spending $13-$14,000 per student and is among the highest of any major city.Even worse, a majority of Chicago public school students drop out or fail to graduate with their class. Needless to say, the Duncan era was a disaster. He did, however, pursue an aggressive agenda to promote the homosexual lifestyle in the schools. So Chicago kids can’t read or write, but they all know how to engage in homosexual sex.

North Carolina is about to get out of this atrocity as well. It can't be soon enough.

Why do we need a federal Department of Education that doesn't educate anybody but is the school bully instead?

The only reason “education is so dumb” is because the Federal government controls it, and parents give up their children at young ages which destroys individualism and real self-esteem. The government forces and controls the narrative (Worldview/Matrix) of your children so they shape the future “Worldview”. Reality becomes a warped reality made up of peers and strangers. (It warps perceptions and brainwashes the child. It actually removes “truth” from their understanding (Laws of Nature and nature’s God).

We need to be like the days of Franklin, who hardly EVER walked into an indoctrination factory to force group think. Never before the age of 8 years old. He could “think” because he wasn’t given a bunch of lies and garbage for 12 years which creates cognitive dissonance, when Truth invades. He was working by age 12. He was directed at Truth (Natural Laws) from the very first 7 years of his life, with the Natural family structure and knowledge of the Bible.

Note: no one can have the complete “Truth” except God, but everyone should be pointed toward the “Truth” from the moment of birth. There is never a direct line to Truth—debate and Knowledge and understanding History/Reality is essential. Public Schools now direct kids to Satan (Lies) to deform their Reality so much that they will believe “Snow is Black”. That is the purpose of schools since Bertrand Russell claimed it in 1950s.

Franklin filled his mind up with the Classical works which were read by everyone in his day. USA was the most literate country at its founding and the ‘genius’ in one room was staggering.

Why-—true FREEDOM in “education”-—no government run “schooling” like JS Mill stated would only create Slaves for the State. The Bible was in every home-—the most read book which gives true “Wisdom”......Why?—Because Wisdom as Cicero knew, is discerning Good and Evil and the Bible is very clear on what behaviors destroy people and relationships, or what morality makes them prosper.

Only Classical Education is true education; gives one the tools to find the Truth. Otherwise-—you are training kids to “think” like the 3rd World people who were easy to conquer and enslave because of ignorance. They could not think on a profound level....and understand deeper truths like design of governments—cause and effect (history)/Freedom/Justice/Free Markets/true meaning of Life. 3rd world people “feel”. That is all that determines laws now-—”feelings”. No Wisdom possible with these people.

The Age of Reason was caused by people who were truly educated (they all did not agree—on the contrary—”Debate” as Socrates noted is essential to finding truth) \with the Classical approach (designed by Jesuits and the Scholatics for schools); that understanding of the Socratic Method, Aristotelian Logic and Euclidean proofs and Greek and Latin are essential to the truly educated Man.

The concepts mastered by the Greeks, led to the brilliance of Rome, which led to the Enlightenment and Age of Reason, when combined with Christian Theology. Christianity, the most perfect Ethics system is being dumped (even though it is the Foudation of American “Justice” System. Christianity is the ONLY ethics system which created Individual Natural Rights from God.

It has to be erased for the “Collective” of slaves. Ethics which give dignity and worth to EVERY human being can never work in a Collective slave state. That is why Arne Duncan is outraged-—the brainwashed masses are essential to their utopia (of interchangeable drones—no unique human characteristics allowed, particularly that of “mother and “father” so that the Reality of all children will be totally warped so Truth escapes them forever. It will be as vague as it is for the harem boys of Afghanistan, when they become “mature” males, where base urges determine “Good and Evil”. Slaves/addicts of base urges is needed for complete slavery of the state and that is why Sex Education is the camel’s nose under the tent—put in the curricula with a vengeance in 1970.) Sexualization destroys Virtue in children and moral formation. It warps all understanding of self and others. it is why sexual abuse in childhood is so destructive to the lives of people. It creates emotional cripples and dysfunctional relationships....not Unity/Love which is needed in Free Republics (Public Virtue promotion at all times in Just Law).

With the exception of the federal entities indicated by the Constituton's Clauses 16 & 17 of Section 8 of Article I as examples, entities under the exclusive legislative control of Congress, the states have never delegated to the feds, via the Constitution, the specific power to dictate intrastate school policy.

In fact, visiononary Thomas Jefferson as president had clarified that the states would need to enumerate such powers in the Constitution in order to involve the federal government in intrastate schooling.

“The great mass of the articles on which impost is paid is foreign luxuries, purchased by those only who are rich enough to afford themselves the use of them. Their patriotism would certainly prefer its continuance and application to the great purposes of the public education, roads, rivers, canals, and such other objects of public improvement as it may be thought proper to add to the constitutional enumeration of federal powers [emphases added].” —Thomas Jefferson: 6th Annual Message, 1806.
So what U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan needs to do to keep her job is the following. Ms Duncan needs to inspire Congress to petition the states for an amendment to the Constitution which would grant Congress the specific power to regulate, tax and spend for public schooling purposes. And if the states choose to ratify Ms Duncan's amendment then Congress will have the power that it needs to make policy for public schools and Ms Duncan will be a hero.

"The states created the federal government."

Then, the States have the right to destroy it.

...only 25 percent of Oklahoma’s eighth-graders in math are ‘proficient.’”

Or 75% of Oklahoma’s eighth-graders are not ‘proficient’ in math.

Arne Duncan's tortured syntax displays her ineptitude with the English language.
