Beauty-pageant interviews tend to be remembered for all the wrong reasons. Usually, answers become famous by being the subject of mockery for a flubbed phrase or a nonsensical answer (see recent response by Miss South Carolina in 2007 and Miss Utah in 2013).
But a couple contestants in Sundays Miss USA pageant drew attention for coherent answers on some relatively touchy issues. The problem was that Miss Nevada Nia Sanchez and Miss Louisiana Brittany Guidrys views on a couple issues of the day didnt sit well with liberal commentators.
Take Sanchez, who went on to win the competition. When asked to address sexual assault on college campuses, her suggestion that women should learn self-defense abilities proved controversial.
I believe that some colleges may potentially be afraid of having a bad reputation, and that would be a reason it could be swept under the rug, because they dont want that to come out into the public. But I think more awareness is very important so women can learn how to protect themselves. Myself, as a fourth-degree black-belt, I learned from a young age you need to be confident and be able to defend yourself, and I think that is something we should start to implement for a lot of women.
Cosmopolitan editor Elisa Benson and the Huffington Posts Mandy Velez both criticized Sanchez for her answer:
I get that the college sexual assault problem cant be solved in 30 secs but still icky to pretend like self defense is the answer. #MissUSA Elisa Benson (@elisabenson) June 9, 2014
Not happy she won.. RT @taramurtha Miss Nevada says teaching women self defense is the best way to reduce sexual assault on college campuses Mandy Velez (@mandy_velez) June 9, 2014
Lets hope Nevada uses her media tour to reiterate that teaching girls self defense is NOT the best way to protect against assault #MissUSA Mandy Velez (@mandy_velez) June 9, 2014
Other Twitter users took to social media to voice their opposition to her answer:
Ms Nevadas solution to sexual assault is to teach women to defend themselves. How about teach men not to rape? #MissUSA #YesAllWomen Karen Eileen (@KarenDuhe) June 9, 2014

Miss Nevada needs to read up on #YesAllWomen. Girls dont need to protect themselves, men should not attack women. #MissUSA Joshua Louvat (@JoshuaLately) June 9, 2014
They asked Miss Louisiana her opinion about the Bowe Bergdahl prisoner swap...
And giving anything other than the politically correct answer is likely to cost you crucial points in the contest.
uhhhhhhh
if self defense isn’t the best defense against sexual assault, what is?
Saying you’re for traditional marriage will open you for personal attacks ( even from judges themselves ). See: Carrie Prejean.
The best way to combat so-called “date rape” is to avoid dating in college. Students are paying outrageous prices and going into enormous debt in order to get a degree. They are not there to drink beer and have sex .and get arrested for it because they slept with someone as drunk as they were.
Young men need to protect themselves by not inviting trouble in the first place.
RE: if self defense isnt the best defense against sexual assault, what is?
To the libs, telling men not to rape women is the solution.
I am confused what the lefties think is the correct response to an attack on a female.
Surrender to the attacker motivated by guilt at being the cause of his rage
They asked Miss Louisiana her opinion about the Bowe Bergdahl prisoner swap... ................................ LOL! If she said he should be shot, they would have stoned her. All she should have said was; “Bad Trade”.
Do they still have that fag as a judge?
If only there was a law banning rape...
Let’s also ban terrorism.
RE: I am confused what the lefties think is the correct response to an attack on a female.
Read the tweets to her response. It is this — TEACH MEN NOT TO RAPE.
Let’s also teach terrorists not to kill while we’re at it...
If simply telling men to keep their peter in their pants worked, things would be a whole lot better in the world
That “teach men not to rape” howler made the rounds a couple of months ago. Looks like they’re trying to kick start it again.
RE: Do they still have that fag as a judge?
Who are you referring to? There are lots of them. :)
So these liberal hacks sit in judgement on what these young ladies say and then calim these is a Republican “war on women”
“if self defense isnt the best defense against sexual assault, what is?”
Re-education camps and operant conditioning and (possibly) drugs for men, naturally. That’s what they mean when they chant “teach men not to rape”.
So if your buddy says “lets go rape coeds” you talk him out of it, unlike now. /s
If you can defend yourself from a rapist, you also have a spirit of self-preservation that will make you more likely to defend yourself from your government. When my sons were in school, they started that ridiculous policy that ALL involved in a fight at school were punished the same regardless of whether it was self-defense or not.
Now, I realize that the leftists use tools like this to promote the idea that ALL violence is bad and anti-social and that people should NEVER stand up against those in charge when they are wronged or subjected to personal danger. When they come after us, they do NOT want us to fight back.
We all need to start talking about the fact that defending our freedoms is a VIRTUE, not a vice. Likewise, defending ourselves from personal harm is a virtue, not a vice. Violence is NOT antisocial and evil when it has a noble cause: to defend the innocent and preserve our God-given freedom. These are very important principles that need to find their way into the public discourse and in the minds of our young people.
If the feminazis had their way, their defense would be to castrate all men.
