On what was a basic discussion of personal privacy between the host of Varney & Co, Stuart Varney, and the founder of McAfee Antivirus (no longer associated), John McAfee, a startling prediction was made by the latter. Mr McAfee stated that the prior credit card breaches at Target and NM were beta tests and that in this year he predicts that there will be a much larger breach of such customer information.
Sales must be down.
Isn’t this the guy that killed his neighbor? Or something like that?
“McAfee is considered a legend in the computer industry for creating and popularizing antivirus software for the masses. But he cemented his place in the American zeitgeist with a murder mystery in Belize he was named a “person of interest” in the case and his desperate flight to freedom. That international adventure led to McAfee’s claims of widespread corruption in the Belize government and, he insists, a contract on his life by a drug cartel. He and his wife, Janice, have been on the run in the USA for several months.
Authorities haven’t called him a suspect in the murder. Raphael Martinez, a spokesman for the Belize police, says McAfee has not been charged and there is no plan to extradite him. U.S. authorities have made no effort to question McAfee since he returned in December 2012.”
NOT DEFENDING HIM but because I think that he has a valid point in the potential danger.
But where? Will someone attempt to steal the information from Amazon.com’s servers? That’s not going to be easy, since Amazon.com always has a very strong emphasis on customer security (they were among the first to implement secure links for payment transactions).
Remove the tattoos, and that looks like me when I'm hunting white-wing doves in South Texas. Only the vegetation is different.
There were lots of CC hacks last year (Target, etc.) so it’s a safe bet that there be more this year.
I posed that question to my bank and was told (unconvincingly) that they do catch people, just it's kept quiet. I would think it would be the opposite - publicly tar and feather these people to deter more theft.

Keep the tattoos and he looks like a nut.

My feelings are that all of the major CC companies have already been breached; Target and NM were done by less-than-professional hacks and found out.
Why cash must continue to exist. Feels free to add to list.
1. ID theft/credit card fraud.
2. CC company suspends card for “suspicious activity”
3. Bank Holidays because of martial law, currency collapse, bank runs
4. Bank “Bail-ins” a la Cyprus
5. Emergency government confiscation of bank accounts
6. IRS liens
7. Banks moving to pay no interest and account fees (negative interest) to keep money in bank.
8. More privacy with cash to buy books, ammo, prepping supplies, candidate/political group donations.
9. Often cash purchases can be made w/o ID
Needless to say, I'll never purchase another McAfee product.
The Target hacker was Ukranian.
Who is going to go get him?
I let my McAfee subscription expire months ago, and still get multiple, abusive renewal popups every day.
My McAfee subscription expires in August. I will shop for a replacement. Who would you suggest?
M4L
Research ESET and their NOD32
Low overhead. Quick updates.
Been loving it for about 6 years now. I get the 2 yrs for $59.99.
I only say that due to their mistreatment, McAfee will NEVER again get my business.
