Rand Paul told GOP activists Saturday that the GOP cant nominate another Chamber of Commerce Republican and expect to win the presidency in 2016. Its time, he said, for a libertarian moment. Chamber of Commerce is fine, I was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, but a Chamber of Commerce Republican is not going to win a national election, Paul (R-Ky.), the libertarian-leaning senator and likely presidential contender, said. Im not saying we give up on what we believe in, but we have to expand what we believe in.
His comments came during an address to the Republican Liberty Caucus of Texas at the Texas GOP convention here. Liberty, he said, infuses traditional conservatism with the excitement, the energy, the outreach that we need. Libertarian views and traditional conservative values complement each other, Paul added.
The interesting thing about it is, as I go around the country, no matter who I talk to, whether its the establishment the wealthy who support our party sometimes or the poor, people say its time, time for this libertarian moment, this liberty moment, he said. Its no longer something that scares people, its what [makes] people say, we cant run the same-old same-old, were not going to win with the same-old, same-old.
Paul has long advocated trying to bring traditionally Democratic constituencies into the Republican fold, and at the breakfast he outlined his message to disadvantaged people in urban areas. He called for reforming the criminal justice system so it doesnt disproportionately hit minorities and poor people; school choice; and promoting policies that help economic development in poorer areas.
You have to show up, you have to show you care, people have to believe that you care and then well win, be the dominant party, he said. In Texas you are, but were not nationally.
Later on Saturday, he is set to attend an opening of a GOP engagement office in Louisville, Ky., in what he called an African American section of town where we havent been for 100 years.
Of course, Rubio too. Dude lied to our faces about his deal with the Dems. Betrayal like that is hard to overcome.
Yeah, that's the ticket. The Republicans need to run a conservative like Ronald Reagan....
crickets...
I said the Republicans need to run a conservative like Ronald Reagan who can clearly articulate conservatism and connect with Democrats....
crickets....
Hello, anyone there....
crickets....
When you think about the Republican candidates since Nixon . . .
.
.
yep
Ford Reagan Bush Dole Bush McCain Romney
I know, right!
Guess the next Reagan is gonna emerge like he did from outside the GOPe. Too bad Paul joined the establishment.
Runt Paul is a moron. The queers and stoners he thinks would vote Republican if we would offer free dope and agree with the queer agenda, also demand socialism and free everything.
The Demonrats already offer them all that, he has nothing more they want.
My thoughts exactly. If one were to listen to him with regard to some of his past statements on illegals, libertarianism would now bring Amnesty under its banner.
I’m listening to Rand but am I also mindful that he recently endorsed a Chamber of Commerce candidate named Mitch somebody or the other in Kentucky.
Watching Chrispy Cream lose weight is like watching one of those Macy Thanksgivings day Turkey Balloons deflate. Including letting all that hot air out his ass.
Ever since Randy Kook Jr. stabbed his Tea Party friends in the back endorsing Mitch McConnell over Matt Bevin, so Randy could count on Mitch’s endorsement for the 2016 presidential
I ain’t so enamored of Randy. He ain’t true red white and blue.
Of course, Rubio too. Dude lied to our faces about his deal with the Dems.

Forgive my ignorance, but, I guess I missed out on that. Can you fill me in? I seriously don’t know what you’re talking about.
Yep; when Rand Paul endorsed Mitch McConnell in the Primary I realized then that the little twerp is just another political whore.
You are so right.
He will never be POTUS. He is arrogant, narcissistic and thinks he is somehow entitled to be President. He isn’t. As a Conservative, I am sick and tired of his “lecturing” us. Mr. “Republicans need to soften on social issues” Rand Paul needs to go back to fitting glasses. I will never vote for him.
Trying to compare the immigration issues of tiny little city-state Singapore to the vast United States and it’s freedom of movement and thousands of miles of borders and 100s of millions of people, is beyond ridiculous.
Singapore and America have nothing in common, even chewing gum is illegal there.
Singapore has twice the population of Brooklyn, and from 1994 through 1999 executed by hanging, 14 per 100,000 of its population, for breaking the law.
Among the death penalty crimes: Unlawful discharge of firearms, even if no one is injured
Amnesty but he called it immigration reform.
Jeff, that was just too FUNNY!!!
