Rand Paul: "Chamber of Commerce" Republican Can't Win.
Politico ^ | June 7, 2014 | Katie Glueck

Posted on 06/08/2014 11:06:01 PM PDT by Din Maker

Rand Paul told GOP activists Saturday that the GOP can’t nominate another “Chamber of Commerce Republican” and expect to win the presidency in 2016. It’s time, he said, for a “libertarian moment.” “Chamber of Commerce is fine, I was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, but a Chamber of Commerce Republican is not going to win a national election,” Paul (R-Ky.), the libertarian-leaning senator and likely presidential contender, said. “I’m not saying we give up on what we believe in, but we have to expand what we believe in.”

His comments came during an address to the Republican Liberty Caucus of Texas at the Texas GOP convention here. Liberty, he said, “infuses traditional conservatism with the excitement, the energy, the outreach that we need.” Libertarian views and traditional conservative values complement each other, Paul added.

“The interesting thing about it is, as I go around the country, no matter who I talk to, whether it’s the establishment — the wealthy who support our party sometimes — or the poor, people say it’s time, time for this libertarian moment, this liberty moment,” he said. “It’s no longer something that scares people, it’s what [makes] people say, we can’t run the same-old same-old, we’re not going to win with the same-old, same-old.”

Paul has long advocated trying to bring traditionally Democratic constituencies into the Republican fold, and at the breakfast he outlined his message to disadvantaged people in urban areas. He called for reforming the criminal justice system so it doesn’t disproportionately hit minorities and poor people; school choice; and promoting policies that help economic development in poorer areas.

“You have to show up, you have to show you care, people have to believe that you care and then we’ll win, be the dominant party,” he said. “In Texas you are, but we’re not nationally.”

Later on Saturday, he is set to attend an opening of a GOP engagement office in Louisville, Ky., in what he called “an African American section of town where we haven’t been for 100 years.”

It’s time, he said, for a “libertarian moment.”

I wonder who he has in mind to be the Standard Bearer and candidate to bring this "libertarian moment" to us'

It appears so. After all, he did say “Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers” almost one year ago.

Libertarian views and traditional conservative values complement each other, Paul added.

No they do not, they are usually diametrically opposed to each other.

Perhaps his father. Even with that man’s political career with the proverbial fork embedded deep in.

They rejected his work permits idea for illegals by abandoning the Texas Solution.

Sorry- It's time for a Conservative moment. If the GOPe doesn't listen and again forces another Romney/McCain/Dole up our ballot, then it's Hello President Hillary.

He has come out for more libertarian/rino positions on gay marriage, abortion, national defense, the border, and against social conservatism, so he is going to go come out as the libertarian type rino.

If you believe in everything, then you believe in nothing.

Rand Paul wants to turn US politics into The Crypts and The Bloods. They are both equally horrible with the only difference being gang colors, red versus blue.

Rand Paul wants to beat the Democrats by becoming Democrat, minus the free stuff.

Good luck with that...

Yes, but it is not going to happen. By the time Barky is due to leave office, he will have flooded America with socialist minded immigrants to go along with a rapidly expanding black population. Traditional Americans will be the minority, if we are not already there. Add to that, the Republican party is becoming totally dysfunctional.

Work permits are used by countries richer than United States. Dubai uses them. Singapore uses them. I personally visited Singapore in March and saw first hand how work permits work. Every 6th Singapore citizen is now a millionaire. The foreign workers are contributing to their prosperity. After observing the infra structure in Singapore, US felt like a 3rd world country. Airports, hi-ways, cruise terminal, public transportation, hospitals, hotels, restaurants, etc. were world class in Singapore. And no illegal immigrants or drugs in Singapore. They know exactly who is there, what they are doing, and where they live. We know none of those about our illegals.

Reagan got the Democrat vote by clearly advocating Conservatism. He didn’t tell social conservatives to hush y’all. He spoke and it connected with people who voted for Jimmie Carter.

Sen Paul isn’t being clear. He sounds kinda mushy almost like hope & changey Obama blathered about.

Toss Marco Rubio in that same pot!

I do agree with Paul saying that Chamber of Commerce Republicans can’t win. The US CoC is pushing for amnesty.
