It was a race, and California Chrome lost. I didn't hear Coburn complaining before the race. Unbecoming.
If a horse is truly deserving of the Triple Crown he will defeat all comers. Otherwise, they are not truly deserving of it.
Coward’s way out....Actually financially it’s very smart.
It costs a ton of money to enter a horse in a race, and if not running in the other two gives your horse a better shot at winning one, then it makes perfect sense.
There is no rule that a horse has to be run in all 3 events, entry into all 3 are totally separate things too.
This guy sounds like the biggest whiner since the Miami Heat fans the other day.
Coward’s Way Out....potential horse name? hmmmmm :o)
One race in 3 weeks! The poor baby was run to the edge of complete exhaustion.
I wanted California C to win...it had all the makings of a Seabiscuit story....but I’m sorry to hear the owner didn’t keep his mouth shut.
Even so, in a way he has a point. A ball team has to play the season, not just the last games. But the rules allow for what they did, fair or not.
What bothered me (besides the sore-loser diatribe of California Chrome’s owner) was how NBC spent at least the first ten minutes of the post-race show interviewing the owner of the horse which finished tied for fourth, rather than the owner of the winner. They did do a quick interview of the winning jockey, but I got the impression that they wanted him to apologize for “spoiling” California Chrome’s Triple Crown.
Did the Marxist Media have to cancel their gay parade?
Citation won 19 of 20 (yes, 20) starts in 1948. With all due respect to the admittedly faster Secretariat, Citation in his three-year-old campaign was the epitome of durability and stamina.
How disappointing.
I kinda liked the owners after viewing all the media hype. Cool story. Humble, simple folks.
If the best they can muster is to be poor losers they have lost my respect
What a horrible classless chump.
It is extremely difficult to win a triple crown. Horses don’t get a special group of peer to compete against in order to increase their chances of winning. Get over yourself.
What an idiot, his horse didn’t even run second.
Another one defeated by the Belmont, hey loser - you couldn’t make it in New York, so shutupalready!
California Chrome sustained a foot injury during the race.
Secretariat won the KY Derby and Preakness in record times and went on to win the Belmont by 21 lengths. When you talk about great horses you think of War Admiral, Seabisquit, Citation and then the greatest of them all...Secretariat.
I don’t get this guy’s point at all. What makes the Triple Crown so elusive (and therefore such an achievement) is precisely that a single horse enters all three races and wins them all DESPITE having the disadvantage of racing all three races.
Coburn is just the latest to go from America’s sweetheart to the devil and the media will have a field day with this. He knew damn well that there is no requirement for any Triple Crown horse to run all 3 races, he has a horrible case of sour grapes. The media likes nothing better than to build someone up and then totally destroy them. (re..Tiger Woods, among others). Read all the stories prior to the Belmont glorifying him and now we will get a week’s worth of how he purposely ran over a turtle in the road once and ripped the tags off all his mattresses..Heat of the moment comments to the media are their bread and butter.
Unbecoming.
(((
I agree. I don’t follow horse racing — or any sport, for that matter. But I do know that nobody likes a sore loser. Even if what he says is true, he should just accept his loss with dignity.
I guess “Dumb-Ass” is an apt name after all.
