Cut the cord.
I don’t have cable.
What am I missing?
Done >10yrs ago.
There’s always choice.
Stop paying stupid quantities of money for cable or satellite.
You won’t miss it. The only reason most people do it is some kind of silly societal expectation or measure of success. “I have cable, I must be doing well.”
Time to view it another way... “I don’t have cable. I know better than to be ripped off.”
$70 a month is $840 a year. And many pay a lot more than that for multiple boxes and premium channels.
How much content can you pay per view, rent or BUY in the form of movies or season box sets for that kind of money? Answer: More than you can watch.
Never was an option in my neck of the woods.
Bought and buried 200 feet of coax when my underground untility feed was dug 22 years ago and there it still lies....waiting.
DirectTV came first.
The garbage company, too.
Kill tha tee-vee! What are these people smoking that they think they don’t have a choice?
I want channel by channel choice.I have 400 channels, only a dozen of which I watch.
I can’t get cable where I live. The choices are Dish, DirecTV, and digital broadcast. Hard times hit in 2009. I got rid of satellite since it had hundreds of channels I wasn’t watching anyway. Once things improved, I never saw the need to get it back.
We are cable free since January.
I canceled my cable when TWC signed me up for something that wouldn’t even support streaming DESPITE ME MAKING THAT FIRST AND FOREMOST IN MY ORDER.
When I called to cancel, I got connected to some high pressure hick salesman, who wasted an hour of my life trying to convice me I was making a big mistake. Then it took another 20 min to be connected to someone to cancel my cable. THEN it took 45 minutes on hold with billing to get my deposit refunded- which I have to wait 2 weeks to get back..
I bought an HD TV antennae and get 21 FREE channels with shows like the original Star Trek, Emergency, Cannon, the Rockford Files, Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, The Fugitive, Maude, All in the Family, I Love Lucy, The Donna Reed Show, The Rifleman, MASH and my favorite, WKRP in Cincinnati. I love them all and I am always laughing at the innocent humor from back then.
Best of all, there is no narcissistic a-hole hogging my screen.
Cable these days is nothing more than good clear commercials delivered to and paid for by the consumer.
The amount of content now is less than 50% of program time, commercials fill the rest.
Just drop it. You won’t miss it.
You can abandon it. It’s easier than you think!! Just do it and reclaim your life. Cut the cord!!
KK -> Cable free since 2012. $5K richer. 25.000 fewer commercials (Mr Kitty’s estimate)
About 9 years ago I did one of those trials for cable, and something that amazed me was seeing the movie, or show behind a permanent ad/logo for the network, I couldn’t believe it.
It would be Western or a Space movie, with an ad in front of it, they would also run small scroll ads during the show, and then every 6 or 7 minutes there would be full advertisement breaks.
I don’t see how people can deal with all that, I do realize that it is conditioning, that is why after being away from TV, one loses the ability to enjoy it or tolerate it.
Watching TV is largely a conditioned habit, and I think a strong one for most people.
Just give me the channels I want — stop stuffing my channel selector with CRAP!
TV should be PRO-CHOICE!!!
This is a great GOP conservative issue. Most of the trouble is from Democrats. Chop, chop, chop and make it an issue in the fall.
