A group of World War II veterans got a sweet surprise on Wednesday, when a gate agent at the Detroit airport serenaded them with a beautiful rendition of the national anthem over the loudspeaker.
The moving moment came on Monday, when the agent at DTW, Anna Marie Barile, started to sing over the PA system for passengers waiting for Delta flight 98 from Detroit to Paris.
There were 12 WWII veterans on this particular flight, which was headed to Omaha Beach to recognize the 70th anniversary of D-Day. When it was announced over the PA system that they were WWII veterans, they received a standing ovation from all the travelers.

I heard purulus
Petty
She hit every note, and didn’t ham it up by trying to hit the high note at the end.
I was busy as always checking for hands to heart and hats off

Too funny!
Wow !
I’m surprised that the TSA goons didn’t break it up.
I was very fortunate to have met an 82nd Airborne vet last year who was there and also was at Ardennes, Malmady and Bastogne. What stories he had.
Regional accent. You don’t have one?
Hbo had the first two hours on today.
Regional accents.I say "rockits" and "perulus" myself.Folks in other parts of the country might say it differently.
I thought that mini-series was done very well. Nice tribute to all those who served, especially E Company.
This reminds me a bit of a brief encounter I had with an elderly, wheelchair bound,Marine at the WWII Memorial in DC.He was being pushed by his son and as he was looking around he had tears in his eyes.I’ll never forget it.
About 15 years ago, I was asked to drive a busload of WWII vets to a parade.
As they got off, each one thanked me for driving. I tried to tell them the had no right to thank me for taking them on a ten minute bus ride after all they had done for us.
That was an awesome gesture by the gate agent.
BWI airport in Baltimore gets Honor Flights often. I’ve been there several times when these hero’s land or takeoff. You can always tell they’re coming by the clapping. For some reason, the airport always gets cloudy right then.

Indeed. A clear breech in security there. Can’t have passengers speaking or acting freely.
Move along little dogies! Right up in that chute...don’t make me get the prod!
Honestly sometimes when flying that’s what I feel like: cattle on the way to the slaughter.
Years ago I used to drive a cab here in Brevard County. One of our regular passengers was a gentleman that we knew only as “Mac”. I knew he was a WWII Vet. (Korea and Vietnam too) He had mentioned going ashore on Utah beach on D-Day. I was reading a book called “Overlord” which mentions a Lt John McGirr who “amused himself” putting out a fire in a duce and a half ammo truck. I asked Mac if he knew anything about that. He said, “That’s how I got my first Silver Star.” God bless Mac, and all of his generation.
There are accents and there are mispronunciations. IMO hers were the latter.
