I have voted for every park, every library, all the school improvements, for light rail, for anything that will make this city better. But now I cant afford to live here anymore. Ill protest my appraisal notice, but thats not enough. Someone needs to step in and address the big picture.
Austin deserves their idiots.
Gig 'Em Aggies.
Do you want a job?
The power to tax is the power to destroy.
Why? Everything there has her direct approval.
Having been involved with government (military) procurement I can vouch that government will find the most expensive way possible to do anything. That sounds gratuitous on my part. But the very first concern on everything is political, not fiscal. I’m certain this is as true for the school project as a tank or airplane. For example, I’ve read about grade schools that look like shopping malls, with trees and fountains inside. What does that have to do with education? Nothing. But some favored contractor got several million dollars instead of a few hundred thousand.
Government contracts have set-asides for women and small businesses. Then there are all the insane green initiatives that add cost but lend nothing to the product and in many instances take away from it; doing away with Cad coatings on connectors and lead in solder comes to mind.
We have governments doing things that should be handled privately at a fraction of the cost, like educating children. (What’s the most important thing here? Reading, writing, arithmetic? No. They need to know how to masturbate and how evil America was to blacks and Indians.)
Make that “time”-sorry...
Hey! That hurt!
Question for the libtards:
Do the “commercial and corporate interests” use those schools?
I didn’t think so...
“...address the big picture.”
Typical liberal city dweller idiot. She is the one that enabled the taxes, yet, she finds herself not to be the cause of her financial problems. Screw her.
The Dems there say it’s because the businesses aren’t paying their fair share... The morons think if they increase the property tax on business that business will pay it alone and not their customers who they say they’re trying to help... Not to mention it is considerably harder to pay your property taxes when you don’t have a job...
When taxes are high - businesses move to lower tax areas.
The problem is, indeed, voters who want government to provide everything, but don’t want to pay for it themselves.
However, as a Texan, I can assure you there is a bigger problem here.
Property owners bear significantly more of the Texas tax burden than the rest of the population. We are, indeed, a low-tax state for most citizens. We do not have a state income tax, and we want to keep it that way.
That said, a way needs to be found that requires more of the burden be borne by all residents of the state, because all benefit from government services, not just property owners.
She gave and gave to her favorite charity until she gave it all.
She didn’t wake up, she just thinks someone else should pay
Just suck it up honey, you added for it!
I would argue that not “all benefit from government services”...unless you meant to be really specific, ie: Fire, Police, Paramedics, etc.
There is a lot CRAP under the umbrella of “government services” that honest, hardworking folks don’t see one iota of benefit from.
Same here in Florida, no income tax. We have tourist taxes that pay for a lot of stuff, and sales taxes of course, 6% state plus up to 1.5% local options for a limited time to pay for special stuff..............
