Bowe Bergdahl’s Former Roommates Paint Different Picture of Controversial Soldier

Controversy has surrounded newly freed Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl since his release from Taliban captivity, with some in the military, including members of his own unit, claiming he is a deserter, not a war hero.

But Sherry Horton knows a different Bergdahl than the one the world has come to see in the chilling proof of life videos the Taliban released.

"He's a very interesting guy, he was very quiet, he was an observer," Horton said.

Horton, the artistic director of Sun Valley Ballet in Idaho, said she was Bergdahl's ballet teacher and later, she became his roommate in his hometown of Hailey, Idaho, when Bergdahl was about 18 or 19 years old. She describes Bergdahl as someone who was interested in mixed martial arts, culture, languages and learning new things.

"He was a wonderful [ballet] partner, all the girls enjoyed dancing with him because he was so strong and steady," she said.

ok I knew some track guys who took ballet to improve their high hurdle performance.

My high School had an all-state gymnast, his specialty was Floor Exercise. I was on the wrestling team and we worked out in the same room.

He was a phenominal athlete, and sometimes when he was working out, especially on the uneven parallel bars, we would stop and watch him, amazed at what he could do.

We found out that one thing he did also to improve his performance on the floor ex. was ballet. Made sense based on his routines.

He was also as gay as a three dollar bill.

Amazing! All that money, all that staff time, all that uncritical support from the media, and the best they can come up with as a supporter for this guy is his ballet teacher.

Born in Idaho in 1986, Bowe and his sister were educated at home by their parents Bob and Jani, who raised their children as strict Calvinists, studying religious thinkers and philosophers at their home on 40 acres in Hailey, Idaho. At the age of 16, he started taking ballet lessons at a local studio, where he was introduced to Buddhism and meditation.

“He was always trying to expand and learn about different cultures and all sorts of different things,” Horton said. He liked exploring other cultures so much he even managed to learn some Russian from one of the ballet instructors at the school.

Bowe’s father, Bob, told the Guardian newspaper in an interview before he was released that Bowe’s goodwill led him to serve. “He was not there for national security,” Bob said. “He was not there because he lost a personal friend on 9/11. He was there because the way he was raised forced him to have compassion.”

Despite being one of the “best-mannered” men she knew, Horton admitted Bowe had a tendency to become overwhelmed. “There were lots of times here when things would get a little crazy and all he wanted to do is walk into the forest or up into the hills and sit down and meditate for an hour,” Horton said. “I’m not sure that’s what he was doing then.”

A former medic from Bergdahl’s unit in Afghanistan spoke to Sean Hannity tonight. Josh Cornelison stated that Bergdahl deserted his post “willfully and purposefully.”

In the weeks and months spent searching for him, Cornelison said it was a “field day” for the Taliban to pick and choose which targets they wanted to hit. At least six soldiers were killed in the search.

“He didn’t want to be found, and so we were chasing a ghost around eastern Afghanistan for at least 90 days immediately following his disappearance,” Cornelison said, adding that they had to sign a document saying they wouldn’t talk about it.

There’s a video of a regime spokeswoman saying that there are confusing accounts of what happened that day and so only Bergdahl himself could know what really happened. She said just google Bergdahl and you’d find out how confusing the claims all are.

So now that this story is out there, somebody can google Bergdahl as she suggested, and find something to rebut what the eyewitnesses all said. Not about what happened that day, mind you, but the official narrative is never really about the specific details of any particular event, it’s just about the status class of the people involved. Either they are officially-accepted sources, or they are crazy conservative liars and conspiracy theorists.

That’s what it always comes down to. It’s never about evidence. If it was about evidence, the official narratives would never stand a chance.

They needed something to counter the specific, detailed claims of the eyewitnesses as well as the observable actions by the military, in order to paint the eyewitnesses as crazy rightwing conspiracy theorists or “haters”.

And right on cue, the adoring media spreads its legs for the regime, in full view of everyone. These people are as predictable as gravity.

The video is narrated by a Taliban militant, who at one point says, "We told them there are 18 armed fighters and the Americans said that's all right."

According to the video's narrator, the handover took place around 4 p.m. Saturday in the area of Bati in Ali Sher district of eastern Khost province. As the helicopter approaches, one of the Taliban men gets closer to Bergdahl and is heard speaking in Pashto, one of two main Afghan languages.

"Don't come back to Afghanistan," the man tells Bergdahl. "You won't make it out alive next time," he adds as some of the others are heard laughing.

Just before the helicopter lands, a group of Taliban near the pickup shout: "Long life to Mujahedeen," or holy warriors as the Taliban call themselves.

Just a historical aside: the idiom makes no sense unless it's "queer as a three dollar bill." The railroad and coal mining Irish had a particular fondness for cheating each other via counterfeiting, a practice they referred to as "passing the queer." The phrase "queer as a three dollar bill" was used to refer to something fishy as far back as the 1850's in America, long before it was applied to homosexuals.

They may be Subud if they shake a lot. I met a Subud member in CA ‘way back in the day. She described meetings as people shaking and sort of letting themselves go as “spirit” enters. Sounded a bit like Quakers…don’t they quake?

Otoh, she did have some yummy veggie recipes.

The happy-sappy Berghdahl Bunch seems rather Baha’i to me. Baha’i is a “deviant” sect outlawed in Iran but popular in Seattle and other wealthy liberal places. They are extremely politically active, have members in the UN, I’ve heard.
