The United States said on Monday it plans to work with and fund the new Palestinian unity government formed after an agreement by the Fatah and Hamas factions, and Israel immediately voiced its disappointment with the U.S. decision.
The United States views Hamas as a "terrorist" organization and the U.S. Congress has imposed restrictions on U.S. funding for the Palestinian Authority, which typically runs at $500 million a year, in the event of a unity government.
Senior U.S. lawmakers said on Monday Washington should suspend aid to the new unity government until it is sure of the Islamist group's commitment to pursuing peace with Israel.
In its first comment since the Palestinian government was sworn in, however, the State Department stressed that it regarded the new Cabinet as made up of technocrats and that it was willing to do business with it.
"At this point, it appears that President Abbas has formed an interim technocratic government that does not include ministers affiliated with Hamas," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters at her daily press briefing.
In Jerusalem, an Israeli official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said in a statement to reporters: "We are deeply disappointed by the State Department regarding working with the Palestinian unity government."
The statement said Washington could advance peacemaking by urging Abbas "to end his pact with Hamas and return to peace talks with Israel."

But we can’t afford to finance public tours of the White House.
As the late John Belushi said under his breath in the movie “Animal House”, “BLOW JOB”.
And as Steve Furst (Flounder) in the same movie might have said in the stable scene, “HORSESHIT”.
Just another Obama sellout of Israel and cave-in to terrorist organizations.
Let’s build them a greenhouse!
“The United States views Hamas as a “terrorist” organization and the U.S. Congress has imposed restrictions on U.S. funding for the Palestinian Authority, which typically runs at $500 million a year, in the event of a unity government.”
If our GOP Congress has placed restrictions, how is Obama able to get a half a billion dollars to the PLO, PA and Hamas?
No, not the US.
Obama.
They don’t have a government. It’s a terrorist organization. They don’t give a damn about their people, the leaders are thieves and murderers.
Lots and lots of blood on our hands with Obama. Even before him.

Well, sure, for a citizen of this great nation providing material support to a designated terrorist organization is a crime. People have gone to jail for it. People have gone to jail for supporting Hamas. But laws that apply to citizens don't apply to the elite, our government will support a terror based government, no harm, no foul. Hope, not much positive hope here, but change, yup, it's a change. Wonder if the Taliban can take Afghanistan before Obama leaves office, like to see who he appoints Ambassador.

Not a GOP Congress, Congress. In the past there has been bi-partisan support for for opposing terrorist groups, this might be changing.
So ... the United States is going to fund the terrorist enemies of the United States and Israel. Yup makes perfect sense to me .... Heck ... what could possible go wrong with this? I wonder why Israel is so upset at this great and logical plan? < / sarcasm >
Here’s the kicker, and I doubt I’m the first to have thought of it.
This Palestinian government deal was barely reached. Who wants to bet against the idea we made big promises to get it to come to fruition?
Wonder what this cost us?
