On the same day that Sonic, an Oklahoma City-based fast food chain, issued a statement against customers carrying guns at their restaurants, an employee at the companys Topeka, Kan. store was robbed.
According to Topeka police, two males robbed a carhop on Friday afternoon, reports the Topeka Capitol-Journal. Sonic is unique among major fast food eateries in that it provides customers the option of having carhops bring orders to their vehicle.
While police said no guns were displayed by the robbers, the crime follows a new policy that the Oklahoma City-based company issued Friday.
Weve considered the views and desires of our customers and employees that staff the drive-ins across the country, the company said, according to USA Today. Accordingly, were asking that customers refrain from bringing guns onto our patios or into our indoor dining areas. With respect to the storage of guns in vehicles, we ask that our customers continue to honor local laws.

It is to laugh.
Encore tomorrow, the next day, the day after and every day until they eliminate the policy?
Someday, maybe we’ll look back, and wonder why there was such anti-gun hysteria among liberals, as their response to high profile shootings. Especially considering that the vast majority of murders are not committed in these high profile shootings, but occur on the streets of our big cities, in ones, twos, and threes.
Sonic being an Oklahoma company and with drive in’s everywhere I frequent surprises me. They are starting a big expansion spree for a more nationwide presence. They forgot who their base customers were and hired a bunch of PC knowitalls to run their business.
I’m going to miss the Styrofoam cups and rabbit turd ice on the hot days.
The only thing decent about Sonic is they still provide carhop service.
And how do you ban guns in privately owned cars?
It is a ridiculous policy.
I won’t be going to Sonic again. I don’t see a security presence and the outdoor drive in leaves one vulnerable to criminals.
What’s really funny is that the carhops only carry about $20 in change.
Love it when a Liberal plan backfires right in their face. . . .
Bump
I like the car hop service at Sonic. Sometimes you might want to sit and listen to Rush while you eat and you can’t do that without headphones in restaurants.
Appropriate. As far as foolish policy goes it would do me no good to add them to my boycott list; I was there once and was not impressed. Besides, their ads are insultingly stupid.
Why not? Nobody there to draw down on the bad guys.
Logical.
They opened a sonic near me not too long ago. On the day of the grand opening and the days following they had loooooong lines of cars waiting their turn to pull in for the novelty of getting served food while sitting in their car. I assume this area hasnt seen a drive in fast food place since around the 1950s-60s which would explain that.
Traffic to that place has since died down to normal levels. Ive had a couple of their burgers myself and they sucked.
Weve considered the views and desires of our customers and employees that staff the drive-ins across the country,
Many of which may have been criminals wanting to make sure no guns other than theirs would be present during the commission of the robbery.
As I said, that is their one plus.
