The 2014 Republican primaries have been good for incumbents and the GOP establishment over Tea Party candidates. Texas is having none of that. In Tuesday's GOP primary runoff elections, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst lost his bid for re-election to state Sen. Dan Patrick, a former talk radio host backed by Tea Party groups. This is Dewhurst's second big loss to the Tea Party he was upset by Ted Cruz in the 2012 GOP primary for U.S. Senate. Patrick will face state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte (D) for the unusually powerful Texas lieutenant governorship.
The Tea Party also won in the race for state attorney general, with state Sen. Ken Paxton beating state Rep. Dan Branch for the GOP nod. And former U.S. Attorney John Ratcliffe, backed by the conservative Club for Growth and Senate Conservatives Fund, unseated 91-year-old Rep. Ralph Hall (R).
The state's Democratic establishment fared somewhat better. In the uphill race to defeat Sen. John Cornyn (R), Democrats nominated Dallas dentist David Alameel over Lyndon LaRouche Democrat Kesha Rogers, who has called for President Obama's impeachment and campaigned with photos of Obama sporting a Hitler mustache. - - Peter Weber

Fourth seesaw of the seesaw. Pundits having a lot of fun analyzing it all. Tea party may “lose” the next round but good ideas have a funny way of surviving.
“You can’t run against them,” someone said recently. That’s right. What are you going to say? “We’re in favor of bigger government, higher taxes, and no accountability?” It’s impossible. Some get it, some don’t—or choose not to.
But no Zombies.

Bring your money and conservative votes, but NEVER tell us that it was better where you came from.
The only thing I’d bring from my prior state is sub-1% property tax rates.
I hadn’t heard that - I think a big part of Dewhurst’s loss was because of his nasty campaign...
I suspect Sheila Jackson Lee might be one, also the Castro Brothers from San Antonio, and also Willie Nelson.
That’s what they got Grimm on: paying illegals off the books at a restaurant he used to have. They thought they were digging a pit for him when they waited to indict him until it was too late to take him off the ballot. Watch Staten Island and Brooklyn elect him anyway, with or without a campaign manager.
The Rain Shadow of the Rockies extends across the Great Plains from Canada into Mexico.
There are few large cites in this vast dry area, with Denver and El Paso being glaring exceptions.
To the East of the Rain Shadow of the Rockies is the Tree Line of the Eastern Hardwood Forest that extends all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.
Ft. Worth, Oklahoma City and Kansas City straddle this Tree Line.
As can be seen on any National Election Map, the Rural Counties in the US portion of the Great Plains vote for their Conservative Core Values, with few exceptions.
Pockets of Socialist Infections of Major Cities are the primary sources of Governmental Disfunction that Welfare Dependent Democrat voters chose to harm themselves with.
In TEXAS, the primary pocket of Socialist Infection is in the Austin to San Antonio Metroplex.
Major problems in TEXAS include the continuing Invasion of Illegal Aliens from Mexico, the continuing major drought, and Federal Harassment at all levels of TEXAS business decisions, in that order.
Y’all come visit us in August, and stay a spell!
The importance of TEXAS was best stated by Sam Houston:
“TEXAS can get along without the United States, but the United States can NEVER get along without TEXAS!”
BTW, one of our slogans used by newcomers is: “I wasn’t born in TEXAS, but I got here as fast as I could.”
Crickets
I got here in ‘10, and love it here!
For once, people I voted for won (Patrick, Paxton) - and tea party backed too!
That never happened in my former state; too many liberals...
(But I do miss the 1% cap on property tax. But don’t miss the restrictions on CCW.... we do need open carry here; time to undo that one)

Clarification: undo prohibition on open carry in Texas.
In the major city where I lived, it was impossible to get even CCW permits
“And Austin. Don’t forget Austin. Talk about a plague...

I wanna move to Texas.
“I wanna move to Texas.”
Come on down. Its crazy dwn here right now. I live in Richmond which is 20 miles southwest of Houston but work in Houston proper. On my drive in I can count EASILY 40-50 cranes building new mid to high rises all over the place.
If you can stand the heat and humidity Houston is great. Lots of nice people. More great food places than you can shake a stick at. Lots to see and do. The oly major draw back is unless you like living in small enclaves BRING A CAR because everything around here is spread out!!!
How in the world did Christian lose?
That crony Sitton is going to make the Railroad Commission more of a joke than it already is.
Only 5.49% turnout??? I imagine that helped Patrick, but that is still pretty sad...
