This is one decision the whole country will be watching. The New Jersey statehouse has sent a bill to Governor Chris Christie which would place a gun magazine restriction in effect, but in doing so it would also ban many common sport and hunting rifles.
The Truth About Guns reports that the guns in question are some of the most common and popular rifles in the world.
The ban has no exemption for rifles with fixed magazines, including most common .22 rimfire rifles that are used for sport and small game hunting and almost never used in crimes.
The current law prohibits semi-automatic rifles with a fixed-magazine capacity of 15 rounds, but the proposed legislation would cut that number down to 10. There is no grandfathering clause, meaning anyone in possession of a firearm with an 11+ round capacity would be guilty of a felony.
Whittling that capacity down would make the following common firearms illegal throughout the state of New Jersey.

Browning Semi-Auto .22
Colt Colteer and variants
Franchi Centennial .22
Marlin model 60 and variants
Norinco ATD .22 (Browning Clone)
Remington 6A and variants
Remington Nylon 66, clones, and variants
Remington 552
Remington 550
Remington 241
Savage model 87A and variants
Winchester model 74
Winchester 190, 290 and variants
Several firearm companies have already altered their products in order to be legal in every state.
Governor Christie vetoed three gun control bills last year, as reported by Townhall, but his positions have been inconsistent at best on 2nd Amendment issues. If Christie plans to keep his presidential aspirations alive, hell have to veto this law.
B-b-b-b-but, I thought the Second Amendment was for Hunting.
He cannot sign that bill, as it violates the U.S. Constitution. < \sarcasm>
Please write Christie and ask im to veto these bills. If he thinks enough people out in America’s heartland oppose this, he will veto them.
REMEMBER, idiotic gun laws which succeed in New Jersey are later tried in Washington, DC, e.g. the Assault Rifle Ban.
That won’t matter to Fatboy...
Crispy with donut in hand will sign it. He’s a gun grabber from way back.
Never would I choose to live in a liberal run state such as this.
Its what happens when liberals scream the loudest and become the ‘squeaky wheel that gets the grease’, while all the others remain silent and get nothing.
we knew this was coming back in 1962 when Thomas J Dodd and Emanuel Cellar proposed a federal bill to “Only register handguns. Rifles and shotguns will not be affected.”
But also, every move he is making nowadays is done with his future presidential aspirations in mind.
Liberals are accessories to criminals and terrorists... So they will try to find us as accessories... Keep your guns folkies, they will not stop here.
If Christy signs it, he knows he is done for POTUS run in 2016, (not that I would vote for his fat ass anyway).
Chris Christie is dead to me. Fortunately, with his cholesterol and body fat . . .
Fat Boy will probably sign his name with a glazed donut.
After that, he'll have no choice but to move to the Democrat party. There he will just be just another Alinskyite.
But didn’t you read the stories of all the Tryone and Julio Gangbagers along with all the other thugs and criminals standing in line, eagerly turning their illegal guns in? ...because there’s a law now... and its illegal and all... and the criminals surely would not want to break the law... didn’t you read about that?
Me neither.
They just sit back and wait for all the law-abiding people to disarm themselves... then it is easy pickings, sitting ducks, like shooting fish in a barrel... a criminal’s haven = unarmed victims.
What is wrong with New Jersey lawmakers that they would even pass something like this? I think they are counting on Christy to veto it. They can say to their constituents that they voted for it but Christy vetoed it.
No exemption for tubular magazines? For cryin’ out loud...even Massachusetts exempts tubular magazines.
He wants to show the fictitious moderates and independents how "inclusive" he is.
The only politician I would trust is one where the newspaper admitted something like, “but everyone knows that this Governor would never sign such a bill” in its first paragraph.
Notice that, with Christie, they allow for the chance that he “might” sign it.
