The war on climate change may soon be moving inside the kitchen.
Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy is set to unveil on Tuesday six federal grants to universities to fund research on clean cookstove technology.
The announcement will put the EPAs resources squarely behind a United Nations quest for cleaner burning stoves and an end to deadly cooking pollution.
This research will help to improve air quality, protect public health and slow climate change, the EPA said in explaining why the agency chief will preside over the announcement on Tuesday.
To make the case for why these grants are so important, EPA noted the World Health Organization estimates that exposure to smoke from traditional cookstoves and open pit fires leads to 4.3 million premature deaths each year.

Kitchen pollution? I began reading this article desperately searching for the ‘satire’ statement. Seriously.
If women and children are suffering from ‘kitchen pollution’ in the US, why are the Amish, who use wood stoves in many communities, so likely to live well into their 80’s and 90’s?
I agree this is intended to extort millions from restaurants who cook with open flames.

...deadly cooking pollution...
It only took 92 years for that deadly stove to kill my mother.
Dastard.

"Roger, EPA. Sending enforcement unit to offender's address."
"Surrender your Old Smokey now!"

They won't be happy until everybody is cooking like this. That's the point. It's unfair that those mean-old white racist Tea Party suburbanites get to grill out during the summer and use their state-of-the-art Kenmore stove inside to make those wonderful Thanksgiving turkeys. They want us cooking over sticks and shrubs like the Third-World.
Of course the elites will be unaffected by this, and the environment will still be polluted as Hell.

Did your husband ever bbq over charcoal? Yes? Cause of death, fire pollutionSame 'logic' used with tobacco.

Time to burn another tire, I see. These would be tyrants need to be sentenced to a mud hut somewhere without a toilet, running water and any means of heat, light, or cooking other than scavenged burnables.

The federal government can’t (or won’t) secure our borders, but it wants to ban campfires and stoves.
Incredible.
Ben Franklin was prescient, and we’ve lost it.

First they came for our toilets and showers, and we said nothing. Then they came for our light bulbs and we said nothing. Now they are coming for our stoves, fireplaces and grills. Will we still say nothing? When is enough too much?

Splatter from turkey fryers probably account for some.
A friend dropped a frozen turkey into a oil frier, shot that sucker about 30 feet in the air.

Great now, we’ll all have to buy new cooking stoves.
Somebody’s going to make a lot of money off of this scam.

The EPA’s a bunch of air-head liberal elites in search of something to make their jobs other than a joke... once again they’ve failed.

When I was 15, I wrote to woodstove manufacturers and my heart was absolutely set on getting a nice model like that one... I still have all the literature somewhere.

Every house will have one battery operated easy bake oven for cooking food. There will be no more grilling or BBQ either. Meat of all kinds will be outlawed and only government approved food will be legal to obtain. Moochelle’s school lunch program on steroids. Eat your Lima beans.

I'm sure it's actually TRILLIONS of premature deaths each year. And puppies, kittens & dolphins die, too, their tiny bodies dwarfed by the piles of dead polar bears killed by traditional cookstoves.

That’s a rocket stove she’s using. Takes little fuel, puts out enormous heat cause it burns almost all of the gasses.
virtually no smoke comes off one of those

HOe did we ev er survive as a species.
Another boondoggle scheme to ban one product, mandate another - like low-flush, toxic light bulbs, - and you can bet your bippy, they all have the first, low stocks in the product.
Nice little racket.
