Why you can't fix stupid:Republicans Say They'd Restore Filibuster If in Power

The Democrats’ majority in the Senate is on the line this election season, and if Republicans take back control, the GOP will need to decide on new rules for the new Congress in the upper chamber. Some Republican members are willing to go back to way things were before Harry Reid took the gavel.

In the wake of the recent controversial nomination of Judge David Barron, author of the memo which gave a legal basis to kill Americans abroad with drones, to the first U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Republicans became apoplectic after getting word that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid threatened to change the filibuster rules on federal nominees again to make the process favor the majority further. Don Stewart, spokesman for Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, told Breitbart News on Wednesday that McConnell has already made it clear that, should the Republicans take back the Senate, decisions on rules will be made among conference members.

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), known for his 13-hour filibuster last March against CIA Director John Brennan, filibustered Barron on Wednesday, but as a result of Reid’s recent

Note to all:

I suggest you attend a few of your local county GOP meetings, as I have. (And be prepared!)

Absolute fools to do so . . . unless and until they reverse every damned thing done to our country by these anti-American fools in the Dummycrat Party.

But, being the “Real Stupid Party”, they’d bring back the filibuster and get it jammed up their sorry butts.

“I’d let the Dems suffer for at least the first term of a Republican presidency. THEN go back to the way it was.”

Not I, the filibuster would be toast once the stars aligned and we had a conservative president with a Republican Senate.

(I’m not sure where I’d stand with the filibuster if Christie was president...we might need it to stop him on guns and amnesty)

These damn fools. You don't show your best cards to the biggest cheats at the table, and after they've already stacked the deck.

Well said.

If the Republicans do take back the senate, they should immediately announce that they are keeping the "Harry Reid Rule" in place. They should refer to it exactly that way - the "Harry Reid Rule." By doing so, when the whining starts among Democrats, everyone will know that the Republicans are simply continuing what Harry Reid started.

I actually think the Republicans can stand on principle (restoring the traditional filibuster rule) *and* use their power to their advantage - all they need say is that they will restore the traditional rule only when every office holder who has been given their position in violation of that rule has been removed - whether it’s by resignation, retirement, death or whatever.

If the Democrats want the old rule back, let them figure out how to clear out the hacks they put in judgeships and the like. And it they can’t, the Republicans can use the simple majority approach when it really counts - like a really controversial circuit court appointment, or maybe even the Supreme Court.

Well I am assuming if we win back the presidency, it wouldn't be someone like a RINO like Christie who we'd have to be worried about, but a true conservative. If Palin was in there she'd make the Rats bleed a little for the damage they have done.

I can't believe I agree with Orrin Hatch on this, but I am guessing he is shifting more conservative for his own political preservation now.

It should be restored after a few years, at least let the Dims suffer for that long.

Which is great...IF you walk in there to immediately/at first opportunity dethrone their leadership and establish your own rule. Otherwise you are wasting your effort. Because you will be quickly subjected to Saul 101.

It is the classic “If you intend to kill the King” scenario.

While I have always been a believer in the complete elimination of the filibuster for everything, this is just about as stupid as one can be.

All this proves is the republicans want the chairs but not the responsibility. With the possibility of a conservative president the establishment wants, I repeat, wants, to stop any originalist from getting on the courts so they will use the democrats to do it for them...

We should restore constitutional government, and undo the dreadful damage of the past six years, as the liberals put it “by any means necessary”. After that, we can talk about the rules.

Other Feepers have used this analogy in the past, but it bears repeating:

Think of the Republicans as Charlie Brown, waiting to run up and kick the football, and the Democrats as Lucy, holding the football and saying "don't worry Charlie Brown, I won't pull the football away this time!"

The democrats will restore it in December before they lose their majority in January.

Leave the Rats’ Senate rules changes in place until all the damage they’ve caused is undone/reversed, then restore the ‘old rules’.

Every damned time the Democrats are in charge they cheat; and every damned time the Republicans are in charge, they change the rules back so it is more “fair”.

Apparently they really are that stupid.

Or, we should consider, maybe they know *exactly* what they are doing. That is, the RINOs that support this are liberal Republicans. As such, they support the Democrat agenda more than anything the conservatives propose.

They put these rules in place to *stop* conservatives. By having these rules, they make it easy for the RINOs and Democrats to “murder conservative ideas in the crib.”

Which is *exactly* what McConnell, McCain, and Graham want to do. BECAUSE THEY ARE LIBERALS.

And this is *exactly* why one of the most important things for the conservative senators to do is *NOT* make McConnell the majority leader again. Back bench his sorry ass, and tell him, McCain and Graham (if Graham is still there), to put a sock in it.
