UKIP have topped the European polls in the UK, with the Labour Party vying with the Conservatives for second place.

Sources from the other main parties have conceded Nigel Farage's party will win, with the leader hailing an "earthquake" in British politics.

It will be the first time a party other than the Conservatives or Labour has topped a nationwide poll for the first time in 108 years.

Like here, it will only matter if they can 1. perform and 2. hold those seats for a generation.

At least he’s consistent. Central planners always know that the public is either getting it right by voting for their policies or just too stupid to understand by voting against.

Watch as the Tories move to the right now. They have no choice—change or die.

I'm hoping for "die". In next year's general election, the British conservatives will have a choice between real conservatism (UKIP) and fake conservatism (Tory).

Given that UKIP has demonstrated that they can get more votes than the Tories, and that the main argument against voting UKIP was that it was a "wasted vote" that would just split the conservative vote, I could see the UKIP sweeping the Tories into oblivion, much like the Lib-Dems were swept away in this election.

This must terrify the Establishment. Nigel should pay lots of attention to his personal security from now on.

I wonder how this will translate in the next elections for the British Parliament. Is this a foreign policy referendum? What will happen when the races are closer to home?

Yup. 1 for the socialist party.

Not very good in terms of election results, but what the heck, their philosophy drives the entire nation.

UKIP will have to produce a platform and message which will resonate with the electorate in the general elections, as much as it did in the EU elections. UKIP also needs to recruit some good talent to run in the elections.

"OK, so?"

You are spot on. This should be a warning to the Progressives whose use of racist, bigot, hater has so devalued those words that Americans may soon respond as the Brits and Frenchies seem to have done today. The question the Progs should be asking is that the kind of country they want to live in? Words have consequences and American progressives may have miscalculated what those consequences will be.

In 1993 in Canada the “Progressive Conservative Party” was swept from power from over 150 seats to only 2 with the Reform Party winning seats in the West and the Liberals coming to power.

It was a messy ten plus years until a new Conservative Party of Canada was constructed and achieved power.

But Canada did survive.

I hope UKIP can find a better outcome with “Euroskeptic” Conservative MP’s jumping ship by the dozens and a continuing surge in popular support ahead of May 7th next year so they can get to 300 plus MP’s in the House of Commons.

The political establishment will be out to destroy Farage and UKIP with fanatical leftists who may see him as a racist becoming more violent at his public appearances.

I remember the gay college professor Pym Fortuyn of the Netherlands who started the movement now headed by Geert Wilders.

When the political movement to control immigration to the Netherlands gained steam a crazy man described as an “animal rights activist” assassinated Fortuyn.

Farage needs a stronger than ever security team now.

With the Greeks and Germans both sending neo-Nazis to the EU Parliament, I am not certain “disengaged” is the proper adjective. Pissed-off is perhaps the better descriptor.

Pissed-off is good descriptor — but definitely “engaged.”

This is the “End of the Beginning” for the UKIP. Now they have to prove themselves in the arena.

Could someone explain this to me? I keep reading about an upcoming Westminster election, a by-election as they call it.

I read the Farage is going to contest it.

Does that mean Farage himself??? Or ...is there just going to be a UKIP candidate?

It would just be incredible if Farage ended up as an MP, also!!!!

Westminister is where the UK Parliament is. Next week, they are having a "by-election" (special election) for a Parliament seat vacated by a resigning member. UKIP will be fielding a candidate for that seat, which is in a Conservative district.

Yes, all that I am aware of.

What I can’t find info on is whether Farage himself is running. Or...is there another UKIP candidate?

So is this just a poll or did the UKIP take control of the government?

“Poll” is Brit-speak for election. The UKIP got the most people elected for the UK contingent to the European parliament.

Number one, what is so wrong about cutting gov’t deficit spending? That’s what the EU’s austerity crisis is all about.

Number two, there’s no getting rid of the Urinepeein’ faux parliament, or the appointed committees and boards which really hold all the meaningful authority — short of each member country voting to leave the EU, one after the other.

Number three, UKIP’s anti-EU campaign is really all about winning a chunk of the next governing coalition in the UK; after that happens, we’ll see just how serious it is about its supposed repudiation of the EU.
