I'm hoping for "die". In next year's general election, the British conservatives will have a choice between real conservatism (UKIP) and fake conservatism (Tory).
Given that UKIP has demonstrated that they can get more votes than the Tories, and that the main argument against voting UKIP was that it was a "wasted vote" that would just split the conservative vote, I could see the UKIP sweeping the Tories into oblivion, much like the Lib-Dems were swept away in this election.
This must terrify the Establishment. Nigel should pay lots of attention to his personal security from now on.
In 1993 in Canada the “Progressive Conservative Party” was swept from power from over 150 seats to only 2 with the Reform Party winning seats in the West and the Liberals coming to power.
It was a messy ten plus years until a new Conservative Party of Canada was constructed and achieved power.
But Canada did survive.
I hope UKIP can find a better outcome with “Euroskeptic” Conservative MP’s jumping ship by the dozens and a continuing surge in popular support ahead of May 7th next year so they can get to 300 plus MP’s in the House of Commons.
The political establishment will be out to destroy Farage and UKIP with fanatical leftists who may see him as a racist becoming more violent at his public appearances.
I remember the gay college professor Pym Fortuyn of the Netherlands who started the movement now headed by Geert Wilders.
When the political movement to control immigration to the Netherlands gained steam a crazy man described as an “animal rights activist” assassinated Fortuyn.
