Troops, tanks, trucks, artillery, and armored personnel carriers of China's military were seen heading to the Vietnamese border on May 16 and 17, according to photographs taken by by residents near the border.
Chinese netizens have been posting photographs of the large movement of the People's Liberation Army, many of them showing Chinese troops in full combat gear heading to the local train station in Chongzuo, along with military vehicles.
One netizen said the Chinese military was taking the train from the Chongzuo station to Pingxiang City, which shares a 60-mile border with Vietnam. The netizen said that the Huu Nghi Border Gate to Vietnam is also now closed.
One of the photos, taken from inside a passenger train, shows the Chinese military preparing artillery for transport on a train track. Others show Chinese troops and military vehicles traveling along dirt roads.

“..How would you feel if you were surrounded by hostile Communist countries?...”
Sorta like living in PA with NY, MA, and NJ nearby...
ChiComs versus VietComs...
Ahh, what ever happened to the good old days of communist solidarity, brotherhood, and unity???
Slug it out, fellas. Enjoy yourselves.
Putin is preparing to sign a 30year gas supply deal with the Chinese which I doubt he'd risk losing to defend Vietnam's Rodney King style rioting.
Well, it is obvious that we will do NOTHING.
Bet that scares China.
This did not go well for the ChiComs the last time.
Opening moves by the CHICOMs that will, based on the US response, end with the conquest of Nationalist China.
Vietnam hasn’t fought a war in a long time.
Back in 1979 they had plenty of recent combat experience.
Now they won’t have that important advantage.
The Chinese have massively upgraded their tech. While Vietnam, as far as I can tell from published sources, has spent very little on armaments since the 1970s.
In 1979 both were at the same technology state, or perhaps the Vietnamese had a slight edge. These days the Chinese have a huge advantage, particularly in the air.
The Vietnamese may also suffer from a lack of ammunition and in particular of resupply. The large stocks of Vietnam war ex-Soviet ammo are long obsolete. They have no source of resupply (well, possibly India) that would be willing to risk facing Chinese air superiority to get it to them.
The Vietnamese have the advantage of position and terrain as before, possibly negating the massive Chinese superiority in armored units.
In 1979 the Chinese suffered from poor logistics due to the poor roads and rail through the undeveloped region north of Vietnam. I believe this situation has since been remedied.
They would not strop at VietNam
Taiwan would be their ultimate goal. Cambodia would be an afterthought.
Not Thailand (yet) I think, those people are the sweetest and nicest in the world until you insult their king or piss off the buddhist monks
Damn. Obama couldn’t handle one crisis, let alone two.
Two dictatorial regimes headed for war, it seems.
This is a tremendous opportunity for the US to covertly side with Vietnam. Don't count on that happening.
The last time the Chinese mounted a punitive expedition against Vietnam, they sent green troops against seasoned Vietnamese combat forces. The Chinese infantry were decimated, so they fell back and relied on artillery duels.

Or pick a fight with a ladyboy.
In 1979 when Vietnam invaded Cambodia (Kampuchea) and China attempted to invade Vietnam, we cold warriors called it a case of “dirty commies fighting rotten commies fighting evil commies”.
As for the millennia of bad blood between China & Vietnam, the Han Empire occupied Vietnam for a thousand years before the latter threw off the Chinese & later Mongol yoke. And it’s been nearly a thousand years since then.
Google “Tran Hung Dao”, a Vietnamese general of the thirteenth century who could give Patton & Rommel a run for their money.
This is really a bad situation. China is flexing it’s muscle as often as possible these days. They see a week and feckless American leader, who represents the weakness and stupidity of it’s and increasingly uninformed and stupid people. As we are preoccupied with an economy in general malaise, they invest heavily in the weaponry and tactics necessary to become a major power. One that is not interested in trade and economic benefit, but in regional and global domination.
The Chinese Communist puppet masters had already convinced Bill Clinton and the idiot American Corporatists that “Most Favored Nation Status” in economic terms would not be a one way street. It most certainly has benefitted ONE nation highly over the Other and that one is China.
Now that our desire for cheap labor and profit has given them the money to buy our debt and in turn our interest payments have been used to expand their military. All the while they have mined our top corporations and Universities for the knowledge necessary to create a First World military writ large with 50,000,000 excess men. Out of a population of 1,341,335,152: 696,340,752 are male and 644,994,400 are female for a 1.08 to 1 ration.
They have 50,000,000 more men than women, think about the ramifications of that one child policy for fifty years. 50,000,000 more men than women of fighting age with nothing to do with their dicks but pull them and look longingly to neighboring countries like cave men with the biggest stick in the neighborhood. They want the natural resources and power that come with it and the Communist Vietnamese are simply the same Vietnamese they have attempted to dominate for the past three millennia regardless of political beliefs.
The problem is only getting worse since as of 2010 there where 1.18 boys born to every girl born. This is almost a twenty percent larger population of boys to girls and the trend of greater male to female birth rates is only expanding, not shrinking.
This is a real problem.
