Texas continues to outshine the rest of the nation in terms of economic and job growth. Fresh government data from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) shows that Texas added more than 64,000 jobs in April--the biggest employment gain in the state during the last four years.
The new jobs have helped Texas' unemployment rate to drop to 5.2 percent, according to the TWC. This figure is down from 5.5 percent in March, and from 6.4 percent one year ago.
The new jobs come as no surprise; Texas has consistently been ranked one of the most business-friendly states in the nation. Low taxes, modest government spending, and predictable regulation have made the Lone Star State an ideal environment in which to start and grow businesses.
While Texas is generally thought of as a gas and oil state, its economy continues to diversify. TWC statistics show that during April, eight major industries saw substantial growth.
"Were fortunate in Texas to see significant growth across several industries," TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Ronny Congleton said in a statement.

Texas, our Texas.
While I’m sure business-friendly policies helped, I suspect the oil and gas boom resulting from high oil prices and the fracking revolution were big factors.
Because of the natural humility of Texans, many people don’t know much about our state, for instance the state song.
I don’t know the state songs for other states, but surely none could express more humility and national community than this simple choice, for such a modest state.

Karr Ingham, a Texas-based gas and oil economist, told Breitbart Texas, “The oil and gas industry has not gotten smaller—rather, the overall Texas economy has gotten bigger. The state economy is now a powerhouse. It is more than just an oil and gas economy; it is an industrial economy, a tech economy, a business economy, a manufacturing economy. ... Texas has a lot going for it.”
Texas’ economy is growing at such a rapid rate, that some areas in the state have trouble filling all available positions.
"It'll be a shame if somebody put their Big. Dumb. Feet*...All over it...
*Or the EPA, or the BML, or filled it up with "dreamers."
They must have overlooked North Dakota, which leads the nation in both job growth and low unemployment.
All of these are sectors that support the growth in the oil and gas industry. It's not possible to will these things into existence, but it would be nice if cutting edge companies were to start up or establish HQ's in TX instead of in CA. Where are TX's Apple, Cisco, Intel or Nvidia? Compaq, Texas Instruments and Dell are great companies, but they are exceptions to the rule.
Recently Ted Cruz said that Governor Perry, was not responsible for the great job growth in Texas. Cruz is correct. It is the business friendly environment in Texas that gives us our great economy. Governor Perry is the one that has extended and defended this normal environment in our great state for business to flourish.
In my past several millionaires have given me a job. I worked for them and made them money. They paid me a fair wage commensurate with my skills. I was willing to work in some god awful places, Nigeria, Middle East, North Sea, the jungles in South America, throw in a coup, malaria, dengue fever, thrown out of Dubai, jailed in Venezuela etc. but they paid me very well.
I am too old for this now, but God I miss it.
If you have valuable skills, come to Texas, we need you. If you do not have valuable skills, please stay in California, Oregon, Washington, New York, Massachutches etc.
Are you pushing some kind of California versus Texas argument, or what?
What is your point, Texas is Texas because of some oil boom?
He has hobo shoes. For all the money he has, his shoes are in terrible condition.
Texas has growth in spite of Rick Perry.
If you are from Texas, and pay attention, you will know Rick is a RINO who talks big conservative, but he is all hat and no cattle when it comes to conservative.
No conservative Texan would want to force 14 year old girls in Texas to get inoculated for sexually transmitted diseases. Nor would a conservative Texan wan to seize land, and sell it to a Spanish company to build a tollway call the “Trans Texas Corridor”.
I could go on, but believe me Rick is a RINO.
If Compaq, Texas Instruments and Dell are exceptions to the rule, then what about other major tech companies? Microsoft and Amazon are in Washington, IBM is in New York, Xerox and Pitney Bowes are in Connecticut, and NCR is in Georgia.
Just exceptions to the rule as well?
bump
We Texans are probably the most humble of all peoples, which is very surprising considering how unnecessary it is for a people as great and noble as us.
I know that I am more humble than anyone that I have ever met, anywhere, I guess it is just the kind of thing that people all over the world, look up to us for.
Apple is moving a *boatload* of operations to Texas and just opened up a manufacturing center here. Certain Mac models are now made in the USA.
Also, never heard of Texas Instruments? Intel also has extensive facilities here.
There’s also quite a few large game and software development studios. iD comes to mind immediately.
Apparently Obunga’s hippie mama never taught her boy to keep his feet off the furniture. He does this on the desk in the Oval Office, too.. a**hole.
People move to Texas to breathe free.
But don’t try to tell Obama that.
I really enjoy living in Texas. I feel like the Lord sent me here.
