A New York City cab driver insisted Friday that it is his right, hands down, to wear a Nazi armband – even if the Taxi and Limousine Commission says otherwise.
As CBS 2’s Lou Young reported Friday evening, Gabriel Diaz, 26, spoke outside of his family’s home in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx, after he was suspended for wearing a swastika while driving the cab.
“I am. I’m a National Socialist – what you guys call a Nazi. I am. I’m a believer of it,” Diaz said.
Diaz was suspended for wearing the armband while driving his cab.
Not just once, but multiple times, photos sent to the Anti-Defamation League and to the Taxi and Limousine Commission sparked an investigation.
Diaz told Young he knew the symbol would offend some people, but denied being anti-Semitic.
“I don’t hate Jews. I’m critical of them, but I don’t hate them. That doesn’t mean that I’m anti-Semitic. That don’t make me a hater,” Diaz said. “Who says you have to be white to be a National Socialist? You don’t have to be white, it can by anybody.” . . .

The Spanish are considered white and while they remained neutral in WWII were asked by Hitler to join the Axis.

He has the right to wear a nazi symbol and his employer has to right to fire his stupid ass. Let him start up his own cab company and let’s see how well he does.

I wrote my comment without first looking at the photos that accompany the article. I made an unwarranted assumption, based on the cabbie’s last name. Sometimes, it isn’t enough to just “read the article” — you have to look at the photos too.

If I were the dispatcher at that company, I would send the guy to 1938 Kristallnacht Avenue in Queens for a pick-up and tell him his ass was on the line if he didn’t show up there within half an hour.

I am presuming you are just referring to the cab driver?
My life in the work force began in early 50’s (as a teen ager) and if a person told you he didn’t want you working for him that pretty much ended the quest for the job, you went to the next possibility.
I remember in the mid 70’s Blacks weren’t being hired because of ‘corn rows’.
During that period etc if a Black were to go in a ‘Biker Bar’ and they had Rebel Flags etc hanging around it may be a good idea not to frequent the place, NOT go sue because they didn’t want to serve you, scowled at you or you were offended by the Stars and Bars.
Drop the Black from above and a lot of Whites would do well to NOT be there.
What happened to the concept if you don’t want me in your place of business NO MATTER WHAT REASON, then I don’t think I want to be helping you along the road to riches.
No different than if you walk into a place and they have BO or Pelosi pictures and you say you don’t like the atmosphere, the owner should be able to tell you that you can leave, you suing him for offending you is ludicrous.
Like ‘we’ have been saying recently, it is definitely a Bizzarro world when I, as the owner of a bakery, AM FORCED to put whatever YOU want on a cake but if I express my religious or moral views, my bank can ‘fire’ me, if they don’t want me as a customer, fine, but NONE of this should be in the hands of courts or judges.
