A New York City cab driver insisted Friday that it is his right, hands down, to wear a Nazi armband even if the Taxi and Limousine Commission says otherwise.
As CBS 2s Lou Young reported Friday evening, Gabriel Diaz, 26, spoke outside of his familys home in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx, after he was suspended for wearing a swastika while driving the cab.
I am. Im a National Socialist what you guys call a Nazi. I am. Im a believer of it, Diaz said.
Diaz was suspended for wearing the armband while driving his cab.
Not just once, but multiple times, photos sent to the Anti-Defamation League and to the Taxi and Limousine Commission sparked an investigation.
Diaz told Young he knew the symbol would offend some people, but denied being anti-Semitic.
I dont hate Jews. Im critical of them, but I dont hate them. That doesnt mean that Im anti-Semitic. That dont make me a hater, Diaz said. Who says you have to be white to be a National Socialist? You dont have to be white, it can by anybody. . . .

Irony is the real Nazis would have killed guys like him in the death camps.
A Michael Jackson fan ?
Mexican Nazis?
Maybe. Some blacks were in the Hitler youth, most were just segregated and underwent compulsory sterilization. Some served in the military.
Didn't National Socialists start calling themselves Nazis?
A black Nazi? I don’t think the term means what he thinks it means. If/When he got around a real bunch, he would be thought of as worse that dog waste. If this guy is bold enough, stupid enough to give interviews with name and face, the taxi company should ponder if they want publically avowed NAZIS working for them. He actually looks Ethiopian or Somali, not like your average American black man. Perhaps therein lies the feeling of not quite belonging. A thug in search of a gang.
I think he is a non-white Hispanic.
Fire the guys wearing the Che t-shirts too, please!
Not necessarily: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_people_in_Nazi_Germany
He is probably Puerto Rican
If he's referring to the mid-twentieth-century German national socialists, then the answer is "everyone". He's the wrong guy to be wearing a Swastika armband. It's a simple tautology. The "National" refers to a nation defined by race -- it's what distinguished the NAZIs from the Soviet Communists, who professed to be about international socialism.
However, in another sense, he's quite correct. The guy's hispanic -- he could join the race-based "La Raza" (it means "the race" -- so, again tautologically, it's a race-based organization). Perhaps "La Raza" isn't as overtly socialist as the earlier "La Raza Unida Party"; but, you can be certain that it's not a free-enterprise party. The cabbie wants to be a national socialist, he's Hispanic -- he could wear an arm band with a "La Raza" symbol, and no one would dare bother him about it.
Interesting, I would have thought they’d been sent to the camps for sure.
This is probably why, according to Wiki:
“Beyond the compulsory sterilization program in the Rhineland, there was no coherent Nazi policy towards African Germans.[18]
In one instance, when local officials petitioned for guidance on how to handle an Afro-German who could not find employment and had become a repeat criminal offender, they were told the population was too small to warrant the formulation of any official policy and to settle the case as they saw fit.[19]
Due to the rhetoric at the time, Black Germans experienced discrimination in employment, welfare, and housing, and were also barred from pursuing a higher education.[20]”
“The National Socialist German Workers Party (German: Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei) better known as the NSDAP or the Nazi Party “
You mean the National Council of La Raza. It’s not a party, but an advocacy group. They’re trying to be pan-Latino in a way that the older Chicano-based party wasn’t, but this guy isn’t Mexican and might well prefer Nordics to the Aztecs.
Isn’t this really opening the proverbial can of worms?
NOT that the LIBS care about that...
If it is a Govt regulation that the guy can’t wear his Arm Band, in the same respect couldn’t they tell me I can’t wear a VN Vet cap?
A driver can’t wear a Red Sox Cap?
Would they DARE tell a Muslim that he can’t wear his traditional mufti?
Would they dare tell a Jew he couldn’t wear a Yarmulke?
Would they dare tell a Sheik he can’t wear his Turban?
etc etc etc
Of course their response would be the Nazi symbol may ‘upset’ some people.... I agree but if I were to complain that a Muslim driver upset me (because of his dress, smell etc ...actually Smell for all) they would tell me tough, get another cab or find another way - IT IS DISCRIMINATION to tell ___________________ he can’t dress in HIS tradition.
Granted, if the guy shows up for his job, gets his Face, is wearing the now ‘unacceptable’ gear he has a leg to stand on.
However, if I am doing the hiring and tell you that I can’t/won’t hire you (for any of the examples cited above), I am opening myself up to lawsuits.
I would imagine that if you showed up for the interview and were wearing a suit and tie or even slacks and open collared shirt, got hired and then showed up for work in ‘traditional mufti’, YOU would have a case against the guy (or gal....or in today’s world the ??????) if he claims he always wears it or it is his ‘religious’ beliefs.
This transgender thing is really going to get interesting..
Makes one want to buy up all the popcorn companies in the world.
The comments at the link are a trip!
I hate Mexican Nazis.
