Sidenote: This song also penned by songwriter Paul Williams actually pushed "Family of Man" down the charts when it rocketed up to #4 in 1971.

Sidenote: Seven Separate Fools was the eighth album by Three Dog Night, released in 1972. Celebrating their 5th anniversary, the band had begun to mature and seemed to care more about material than just cranking out hits, although the album would produce their third and final #1 with "Black and White". This song written by singer / songwriter Dave Loggins, a distant cousin of Kenny Loggins and best known for "Please Come To Boston", is one of the loveliest songs 3DN ever recorded imho.

Sidenote: Released as a single from Seven Separate Fools, this song by New Orleans musical savant Allen Toussaint failed to chart, but since 1982 it has appeared on every "Greatest Hits" compilation.

Sidenote: This song became Three Dog Night's final #1 single in 1972, written by David I. Arkin (father of actor Alan Arkin) and Earl Robinson, a black lyricist known for his civil rights songs including "Joe Hill" and the 1945 hit by Frank Sinatra, "The House I Live In".

Sidenote: This single from Cyan written by Canadian John Finley of the supergroup Rhinoceros, spent a week near the bottom of the Top 100 and just might have climbed higher had the flip side ("Shambala") not started getting heavy rotation across the U.S.

Sidenote: Released as a single from the Hard Labor album, this Allen Toussaint song failed to do much after the success of "Shambala", but like Toussaint's other offering ("Freedom For The Stallion") this tune always shows up on the "Greatest Hits" offerings and has become a cult classic among fans.

Sidenote: in 1975 Coming Down Your Way was the band's thirteenth album and the last to feature the three founding vocalists Danny Hutton, Chuck Negron, and Cory Wells. This song, written by Dave Loggins was perhaps the group's swan song although they did release Randy Newman's "You Can Leave Your Hat On" as a single, but it failed to chart.

There were other albums but following the split in 1975, Three Dog Night never amounted to much more than a wonderful greatest hits show.

Till the World Ends
~ Three Dog Night ~

That does it for our retrospective into one of America's great bands. I've had a long and blessed day visiting with my son Mike and I need to get to bed so I can see you in church. Til then, happy FReepin', goodnight and God bless.
