Tonight I'm in a Best Western motel in Missoula, Montana, and I should be in Seattle tomorrow. I literally threaded the needle on the tornado activity last week. When the squall line passed, I was struck in a traffic jam on I-65 in Indiana north of Louisville due to construction. This way I could sit still and not try to drive at 70 mph when I couldn't see more than a few feet in front of me.
From Indiana onward, I either got drizzled on or poured on until I hit central Montana this afternoon. It was 79 and sunny when I hit Missoula. I'm due into Seattle for rain and thundershowers tomorrow.
I hope to be back at the Canteen next weekend, but we'll see just how quickly I can find something in the Bellingham area and get set up for Internet.
So far, so good.

Songwriters Roger Nichols & Paul Williams are known for their collaborations on "We've Only Just Begun", "I Won't Last a Day Without You", and "Rainy Days and Mondays" as well as Paul Anka's number one on the Adult Contemporary charts in 1976, "Times of Your Life". When Three Dog Night recorded and released their third studio album It Ain't Easy in 1970 they chose a Nichols & Williams composition for the album's first single and it went to #15 keeping Three Dog Night firmly in the top 20.

I should have clear weather until I cross Snoqualmie Pass on I-90. At the crest of the pass onward, I should be driving in rain and cooler weather.
I missed the gang this weekend, and the Thursday thread with songs on foreign words. Hope to be back entertaining the troops soon.

Sidenote: While It Ain't Easy didn't produce as many hits as the previous 2 Three Dog Night studio albums, it managed to deliver a cross section of songs that kept all their fans happy like this Andy Fraser & Paul Rodgers cover (from the band Free). Rodgers would go on to front Bad Company and Andy Fraser would craft hit songs for Robert Palmer, Joe Cocker, Chaka Khan, Rod Stewart and Paul Young. This song got heavy rotation in 1970 on FM alternative Album Oriented Rock stations that didn't play AM pop tunes like "Out In The Country". Somehow, Three Dog Night kept the right blend of pop and harder-edged rock tunes that assured them a diverse fan base, a task many bands found exceedingly difficult as hard rock emerged onto the music scene.

Woohoo, Publius!! So glad you are safe and sound.
Thankful that you WERE able to thread the needle through the tornado activity. More prayers for your continuing journey “home”. Try to stay dry.
Safe rest of your trip. ((HUGS))

Sidenote: Written by Brill Building regulars Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, this song, while not charting, got airplay on both AM and FM radio, with it's good time dance groove that appealed to pop fans and it's heavier environmental "live off the land" message that courted the hippies, it was a hybrid song that brought the fans together, as at home on "American Bandstand" as "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert".
