A Terrifying GIF Of An Ice Age Ripping Through The US

The northern ice cap creeps over earth.
As we watch glaciers around the world recede, we sometimes hear the argument that these changes are part of the Earth's natural fluctuation. To some extent, they are.
We've been in a relatively stable and warm period for at least 15,000 years. And we are unnaturally making the Earth even warmer. Before that, ice ages covered most of the Northern Hemisphere with glaciers.
The last of the five major ice ages, called the Pleistocene glaciation, began about 1.5 million years ago. It is thought to be caused in part by the Earth getting less of the sun's warming radiation because of the pull of other planets in our solar system.
The Pleistocene glaciation contained at least 20 ice fluctuations within it, in which ice advanced and receded. Sometimes, up to 30% of Earth was covered in ice.
At times this included the better part of North America California became almost completely entombed in ice. Today, evidence of the glacial takeover can be found as far down as southern California's San Bernardino Mountains.

Why not... Arlington Springs Woman did during the last Ice Age.
Not by anyone with the slightest bit of scientific knowledge or more than a room temperature intelligence.
Wow! Look at all that extra farmland!
Mankind could conceivably control the climate, but it would take far more technology than we currently possess. I also agree with the author’s comment that mankind is “warming” the climate. That’s not the issue. The issue is whether or not man’s activities have a significant effect on climate relative to other factors like the sun. Like you wrote, we could burn a lot more coal to try and avoid another ice age, but I don’t think it would make a significant difference. That’s not to say there aren’t other techniques that could be used to mitigate the impact of an ice age.
That makes the continents look fat. Global-wide continental diet. It's the only thing that can save us.
All I see in your post is the dreaded red X, in a box.
“What do you suggest we do?”
Lower gas prices to a buck a gallon.
I’m safe..................
We don’t have TV, but my wife bought the entire series cheap a few years ago (six seasons). She uses it as background noise. Like it or not I’ve picked up on its humor.
And yes, thanks to my previous post, I have to go back to man class.
What movie is that from? Mad Max?
All the Blue states are covered in ice, so there is an up side........................
Yep, the Toecutter.
When in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout.
