A federal appeals court has stayed the Texas execution of a convicted rapist and murderer, saying that his defense team should have more time to make their case that Campbell is intellectually disabled.
Robert James Campbell's execution had been scheduled for Tuesday. It would have been the first execution in the United States since a botched lethal injection in Oklahoma left an inmate writhing in pain before death.
His defense team now will have more time to appeal his death sentence.
"It is regrettable that we are now reviewing evidence of intellectual disability at the eleventh hour before Campbell's scheduled execution. However, from the record before us, it appears that we cannot fault Campbell or his attorneys, present or past, for the delay," justices from the U.S.

We can’t execute this guy — he’s not Einstein!
According to the article the perpetrator’s lawyers claim pentobarbital, the drug used during execution, “is no longer available in regulated form and can be obtained only via so-called ‘compounding pharmacies,’ which operate outside of U.S. Food and Drug Administration oversight.” This implied disrepute of compounding pharmacies is unfounded: http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/GuidanceComplianceRegulatoryInformation/PharmacyCompounding/default.htm
Robert James Campbell had the smarts to kidknap, rape and rob a young woman. This crime was a war on women and CAmpbell used a gun in the crime after raping this young woman...why he’s a poster for the death penalty and it doesn’t ave to be nice neat and painfree.
Of the dozen or so stories of this horrible crime that I’ve read I have yet to find more than a mere mention of the victim’s name, no photos and a brief, dispassionate summary of events and despite this I know with certainty what she looked like.
And you would be correct:

Pretty 20-yr-old white girl, Alexandra Rendon, in a photo at that site.
After raping Alexandra, Robert Campbell sadistically told the victim “run bitch, run” before shooting her twice. I guess that added to the sport.
Save the drugs. Set him on fire.
Sadly correct. Like the animal in OK a few weeks ago raped the White girl, made her watch her grave being dug then buried alive.
“...since a botched lethal injection in Oklahoma left an inmate writhing in pain before death.”
I still don’t understand how that is “botched”. Seems like it went pretty well, all things considered. Probably wasn’t painful enough.
Texas should execute him anyways.
Half the kids coming out of public schools are intellectually disabled thanks to the liberal indoctrination process they’re being subjected to.
Campbell was involved in a string of armed carjackings in 1990 and 1991.
23 years later they aren’t sure if he’s retarded which was previously raised and rejected in the federal and state courts.
The retards here are the ones on the court that stayed the execution.
He has lived 23 years longer than his victim. It is time for him to meet the devil.
Ironic how these bleeding hearts will wail over the death of human vermin, but have no problem killing an unborn child.
“left an inmate writhing in pain before death”
ALL death penalty inmates should writhe in pain during execution!
How does a federal appeals court have jurisdiction here?
Can someone point out the constitutionality of this?
What am I missing?
Why is this not a hate crime?
I long for the day when a convicted beast upon the final sentencing is marched to the gallows and publicly hanged within minutes of the conviction.
The morons who run our gov’t favor criminals over the innocent victims. God will deal with these enablers as well soon enough.
“Texas should execute him anyways.”

‘Intellectually disabled’ describes all democrats; maybe even defines them.......
