KC Star ^ | 5/13/14 | LISA GUTIERREZ

She and her fellow conservatives have been on a roll the past few days mocking the #BringBackOurGirls social media campaign launched to call attention to 300 kidnapped Nigerian girls.

First Lady Michelle Obama became the face of the campaign when she posed with a small white sign with the hashtag written on it.

They can now literally create their own reality.

Actually, they are just creating a delusion. The scope of that delusion will not alter reality. Reality is coming, and it will smack their teeth out.

Zippy and Mooch didn’t start it though. They’re just hopping on the bandwagon. #BringBackOurGirls has worked just as intended and we look stupid bashing.

I guess it depends on the meaning of the word “backfire”.

I’d say she got’m good and they’re going bonkers.

I honestly can’t understand why commentators hate this campaign. The fact that we’re talking about it means it was successful in what it set out to accomplish. Criticize the Mooch for her ridiculous, insincere photo-op, but there’s not reason to dismiss the campaign.

The hashtag campaign falls in same bin as candlelight vigils, a pointless exercise that serves no other purpose then to make attendees feel that they are "doing something" about a problem with the added benefit of doing it in as easy a manner as possible without the complication of actual results. When it becomes policy (like when that state department twitterette implied that Vladimir Putin would bow to the power of hashtag and leave Ukraine), it shows how far up the creek and away from a paddle we are.

I know the reply: the hashtag deal increases awareness of the issue. So it gets "retweeted" or whatever by millions of twitterpeople...and then what?

I have nothing against the campaign, although like the Free Tibet campaign it will probably have no practical effect, i.e. get the girls back.

My objection to the Moochelle twitter is that she is First Lady of the U.S. and that picture was so pathetic it signaled the world just how impotent this administration is.

If I had time I’d take the Michelle picture and replace the text with:

“Have pouty face; will raise consciousness for food*

*food served in luxury resort”

What I didn’t get, was the inclusion of “our girls”.

Our girls?

Those girls are not from the U. S. It seems an insult to call them our girls in deference to the girls of the nation in which they were abducted.

“Release the Nigerian Christian girls!” would seem to be the best way to address this.

Once again, the Obamas make it mostly about them, and very little about the people, issues, and nation at hand.

“OUR” girls? Say what?

Was never mentioned? I saw it on my Facebook before the “brilliant campaign” ever started. A missionary friend asked for prayers for these girls and for the girls to be freed. But as I stated earlier today, if the US were needed in the past to help out in this sort of thing, it would have been done with no media attention whatsoever. Because the folks who would do the heavy lifting would have depended on secrecy to be effective. Alas, there is little secrecy now with the folks running the show. And they put empty words on signs so they can bump their poll numbers up. So maybe it is brilliant in that sense. Are the girls back home yet?

Then the president of the US sends some people to negotiate their release. When they’re released 0 will say, “Michelle was telling me I needed to do something. Rush Limbaugh told me to do nothing.”

The treatment of Arab women, thanks to Sharia has been going on for centuries. Now all of a sudden the USA is going to do something about it. Obama has a motive, he’s looking for a foreign policy achievement while Putin makes him a laughing stock of the world. Freeing these women should have been left to the blue helmets of the UN>
