Rob Gray and his brother-in-law said they were walking down River Street enjoying the sites with their families when they were confronted by a man. Then, a mob attacked them.
I took a punch to my eye and cracked my orbital, said Gray.
I was grabbed by the back of my head at a full run and he smashed my head into the car and I hit the ground, said Jim Thomas. "This was a violent, malicious attack on a family of eight people."
Thomas says the attackers went after his wife as well.
"There was a man holding her by the nape of her neck, with her hair and dragging her," said Thomas.
And even his daughter was attacked.
"My 6-year-old daughter was punched in the stomach by an adult," he said.
The men say they didnt see an officer for more than 20 minutes after the attack.

It never was going to go anywhere. The mayor is a black female, the police chief is a black female. If you are white, what more do you need to know about your safety in that city.
What they ARE doing by attacking a tourist publicly (i know that the victim went public) is in effect saying that if you come here and get victimized, tough crap.
I still say that the guy who went back for the physical alteration was the guy who was the “last to avoid the fight”. What Savannah is saying that if someone says something “offensive” or looks “offensive” to a citizen, the citizen has the right to do a beatdown. Unbelievable.
The posts appear to be “ethnically polarized” one way. (just my study on the TV site facebook posts where one has to have a facebook account to post). I looked at the names and pics. (not a scientific study i know, but a quick snapshot). Almost all the “attack the Atlanta family” posts were justifying a “beatdown” for “words”. Is that what society has come to? If someone is “offended” they have a right to do a “beatdown” up to and including the death of a victim of this “beatdown”? Good Lord and this Presser from Official Savannah police, media, business, is ENCOURAGING this (IMHO) AND by the way the stuff is written (since the family is identified by the victim first and then in media), will this encourage ATTACKS on the Atlanta family because of the Official Savannah PD, media, business RESPONSE? I can smell the lawsuit now. Savannah handled this very poorly. The press releases very poorly.
My response tool doesn’t have a space after the 1st digit in the number...and only one key.
