Family brutally attacked Mother’s Day weekend

Rob Gray and his brother-in-law said they were walking down River Street enjoying the sites with their families when they were confronted by a man. Then, a mob attacked them.

“I took a punch to my eye and cracked my orbital,” said Gray.

“I was grabbed by the back of my head at a full run and he smashed my head into the car and I hit the ground,” said Jim Thomas. "This was a violent, malicious attack on a family of eight people."

Thomas says the attackers went after his wife as well.

"There was a man holding her by the nape of her neck, with her hair and dragging her," said Thomas.

And even his daughter was attacked.

"My 6-year-old daughter was punched in the stomach by an adult," he said. 

The men say they didn’t see an officer for more than 20 minutes after the attack.

Thanks, Councilor, but I expect to see 0bama resign and publicly apologize to the American people before the Sav DA thinks about bringing charges against the red shirt guy.

I don't know. It depends on how much public pressure is brought, how bad business is hurt downtown, etc.

Are the cops even looking for him? If not, then for sure the DA won't be taking any action. That;s the first line of "prosecutorial discretion," just keep s the cops off.

At least your medical bills, lost wages, and cost of the lawyer to prosecute the guy who punched you. You can probably get a modest amount for pain and suffering, I'd say $5,000 minimum, maybe ten times that, depending on the venue and how long you were out of commission.

Correct you are. If you put the cold steel to one of them, he will move the others out of the way. In close quarters, the cold steel can’t be beat. It never jams or never misfires and doesn’t run out of ammunition.

I had a similar thing happen at a grocery store a few months back. I attributed it to rudeness by black people who didn’t know better ... never thought of it as being intentional.

It was the same center where I encountered the young man playing music from his truck - filthy lyrics loud enough so shoppers and their kids were forced to hear it.

It’s intentional. I’ve seen all sorts of obnoxious behavior, sometimes passive/aggressive (walk real slow across the street). Any objection is cause to create some excitement. Even perceived objection (”wha chu lookin at?”) is sufficient.

You’re right - generally if a person is rude I give them a wide berth ... black white or other... not worth my time.

I read the first 50 posts. I believe the family made several errors in judgment that cost them. 1. They failed to accept the fact that there are another group of people who wish to hurt or harm you because you are a different skin color than them, and that these people are subtlety encouraged by the news media and Federal Government. 2.They noticed, but did not question [at least among themselves] as to why the lack of police presence. And the rule I go by is, if there no or little police presence in the area and I am not familiar with the area, I get the hell out. There is a reason that the police are not there. 3. They were unprepared mentally and physically, they were not mentally alert as how to react if the natives got restless. If nothing else, their wives could have pulled off their high heel shoes and gave one to their husbands and kept one for themselves. In a life or death fight, you would be surprised at the damage a high heel shoe can inflict on an attacker. That is why I always insisted, when my wife and I went out that she wore high heels. and I explained to our daughter when she ventured into unknown territory to always wear high heels. If one or more of the attackers had had one of the heels dragged down from their forehead to their chest, it might have gone a long way in calming them down.

But hopefully they learned some lessons. You can be the victim that they brag to their homeboys how scared you looked when they busted your head , or each time they check their colostomy bag, they think about you. Me? I am too old and beat up to travel now, but back when I was traveling, if worse had came to worse, the comment I wanted them to make to their homeboys was, "Man, that was one bad White Boy we jumped on"!

He obviously was not prepared for the vicious retort to his comment coming from the Savannah tribe.

Very unpleasant when the veneer of civilization is stripped from formerly civilized men. Yes, even Christian men can be dragged backward into violence and brutality.

First rule of survival as taught to me by my basic training in the Infantry. When your life or your family members lives are in danger, you shoot and keep shooting until there is no more threat. And to hell with the collateral damage.

Oh, they got out very early. They mostly had house arrest and were able to go to their sports practices etc. Most of the mob didn’t ever get caught.

I’m also tired of paying for the police department with my taxes when the police spend most of their time babysitting the black community.

Police protection should be part of your water bill - if your city block used the police, a payment is added to your water bill. No police needed? No charge tacked on.
