I went through Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in 1978. I was just about the only Regular Army trainee in my company, most were Kentucky and Indiana National Guardsmen. They spent several weekends in this kind of training while I washed dishes in the mess hall in their stead. Nothing new.
Just as long as the police are loyal to the government, everything works out fine. However, you don’t find out if they’re loyal or not until an actual insurrection.
One reason why when they raided Ten an Men Square in 1989, they used soldiers from the provinces, instead of local troops.
