A newly opened upstate-themed bar in Windsor Terrace christened Mohawk Tavern in April has dropped the name after locals and Native Americans cried foul. Once we heard the comments and people of Native American ancestry come in and say it was offensive, we figured it would be best to change the name out of respect for them, said owner Paul Hamill, who will switch the pubs name to Adirondacks in honor of the park and mountain range.

they must have had a collective fit back in the days when everyone wanted to dress like a HIPPY!!
Soon to be re-named, I suppose, to "Drums In and Around the Adirondacks".

Beat me to it!
That has to be the dumbest substitution ever to avoid charges of offending minorities.
Idiots!
The They Eat Trees Bar? GREAT IDEA!!
Behind closed doors everyone is mocked.
And everyone hates everyone else.
Blacks mock all,Hispanics same,Asians same, whites same.
I have relatives and friends in all the above categories and the things I’ve heard make my eyes spin.
Can liberals still go to the barber and get one of ‘them Mohawks?
I’ll start listening after they go after the fake indian, Elizabeth Warren.
I think dropping the name is a good move.
All things Indian should be forgotten, wiped from our societal memory. Removing any and Indian names is a good start.
Tell me about it; I worked for a “tribe” here in Connecticut for a year and ten days, but who’s counting? There was more real Indian blood at a st Patrick’s day parade than in this “tribe” but they behaved as if they just prevailed at little big horn. Insufferable, grasping, drug addicted, drunks with about five exceptions.
that name has probably already been “taken”
revisionism knows no boundries.....
imagine an all out attack on all names titles which could be construed to be OFFENSIVE
CRAZY PEOPLE could PROTEST my use of the word MESHUGE!!
I live around the corner from this bar. It is very small - basically just the bar and a couple stools. It can’t be more than 700 sq ft. I mention this because the only folks who go there are those who live in a 2 or 3 block radius from it. The whole brouhaha started when two whiners on an utterly obscure blog started bitching in the comments section of an article mentioning that there was a new bar in WT. So now the pathetic founders want to call it Adirondack. However, that is an Indian word too, so it should be condemned as well.
One final comment. The venue was an empty storefront for almost a year. A few weeks after it was emptied by the previous establishment (a tiny coffee shop), the owner of the building put up a large NRA poster in the window, along with a USMC bumper sticker. I didn’t see or read of anyone whining about that, even though practically all the cars in my hood have Obama and Coexist stickers on their bumpers. I have to wonder what the building owner thinks of all this stupidity.
This is so rich! In Columbus Ohio, we have a restaurant called THE OLD MOHAWK, which has been in business since 1933, originally famous for its turtle soup. It is located in upscale, trendy, historic German Village. German village has the highest percentage of LGBT in Columbus, and The Mohawk is a favorite restaurant for the community. Now I see it differently, just a bunch of homosexuals eating murdered turtles prepared by racists who mock Indians.
Sierra Club will be all over that with a Cease & Desist order!
Put a few coin operated PINBALL game machines in and call it the MOHAWK BAR AND CASINO!
lets not give short schrift to PETATG...the People For The Ethical Treatment of All Things Green!!
