Good luck with that. Considering that the cartels have millions of dollars at their disposal and an army with the latest weapons at hand, I can’t see an army of farmers defeating them. Too little, too late.

God Bless ‘em if the Mexicans can clean up their own country, and rule of law can return, then possibly they can start to have a better economy and stop coming here just to live off our welfare state.

We need to do the same thing here. It’s Holder and his people who are the cartel here though...

The ceremony in the town of Tepalcatepec, where the movement began in February 2013, will involve the registration of thousands of guns by the federal government and an agreement that the so-called “self-defense” groups will either join a new official rural police force or return to their normal lives and acts as voluntary reserves when called on.

Nothing like making a list of people who can be "visited" in the early morning hours.

The real name for these “vigilantes” —

the militia.

The US Founding Fathers vindicated again.

Could just be political theater. Politicians have to be seen as “doing something”.

I’ve got a feeling those “vigilantes” are not going to be quick turning over their firearms for registration or confiscation.

“The ceremony ... will involve the registration of thousands of guns by the federal government and an agreement that the so-called “self-defense” groups will either join a new official rural police force or return to their normal lives”

“This is a process of giving legal standing to the self-defense forces,” said vigilante leader Estanislao Beltran.”

Odd way of putting it. Sounds to me like the corrupt Mexican government that’s been in the pockets of the local cartels all along are simply trying to disarm the good guys and get them on a list so the cartels will know who to kill.

Is Mexico going to legalize citizen firearms ownership? Didn't think so.

Someone is going to regret this farce if they surrender, register and comply.

Great news. Those Mexicans citizens have shown great courage the past few years standing up to and cleaning out some of their small rural towns from the cartel thugs. Bout time a government recognized their heroic efforts.

Now that the guns are registered, the federales can turn over the list to the cartels. They’ll know what to do.
