Yes, I can see my Father in that picture with his hands clasped in front and staring at the ground. He had a wife and four kids waiting at home. I was not born until a year later.
I remember my two older Sisters telling how they saw him walking up to the house with two huge teddy bears along with his duffel bag. They still have those stuffed toys. My oldest Brother who was only four just looked up and said “Hi Daddy” and went back to what he was doing. He had not seen Daddy for two years.
According to my Aunt, my two year old Brother had a hard time adjusting to not being Mother’s number one guy.

Of those squatting, he is the third one to the left of Colonel Scott.
He was always proud of his outfit and I guess he had a right to be.
Daddy had some odd feelings. He absolutely could not stand Eisenhower, but practically worshiped Montgomery. Probably just the opposite of how history sees them.

Did he explain why he had those particular feelings for those two men? I’d be interested to know from one who had “been there”.

I have never heard him say why he disliked Eisenhower. I do recall his one time saying that Montgomery was a fine Christian. I do know he was actually around both of them for a bit which is probably uncommon for enlisted men in WWII.
I do now recall him saying that Eisenhower betrayed Patton but I have read a couple of books about Patton and in fact Eisenhower stood by Patton when everyone was wanting to tar and feather him so Daddy was actually wrong about that.

Good evening, Mayor, and thank you for today’s sustenance for body and soul.
We finally have some rain....slow and steady all day. Dust is settling.
