Really incoherent. But here’s what apparently happened.
Woman has sex several times with married man, which is the crime of adultery under the local variant of sharia. At some later point, she is gang raped. Can’t figure out how the gang rape is related to the affair. It is implied that both she and the boyfriend were assaulted in some sort of vigilante attack as a result of the affair, but it’s really vague.
Anyway, the rapists have been arrested and charged. The woman and her boyfriend will each receive up to nine strokes with the cane for the adultery. Depending on the cane, that’s a pretty severe or a fairly light sentence.
I’m afraid I don’t see the enormous injustice here.
The women is not to be flogged for being raped, but for a preceding offense for which her paramour will also be flogged. Perhaps we should commend the locals for gender-neutral enforcement of the law against adultery.
If a woman here steals a car and is later raped, do we drop the charges against her for car theft?
You might legitimately believe that adultery should never be a criminal matter, but it seems to me this is a matter best left to local option. Of course, any such criminality should be addressed to both partners, which seems to be the case here.
