Flooded rail lines. Bigger, more frequent droughts. A rash of wildfires.
Those are some of the alarming predictions in a White House climate change report released Tuesday, part of President Barack Obama's broader second-term effort to help the nation prepare for the effects of higher temperatures, rising sea levels and more erratic weather.
"Climate change, once considered an issue for a distant future, has moved firmly into the present," the National Climate Assessment says, adding that the evidence of man-made climate change "continues to strengthen" and that "impacts are increasing across the country."
"Americans are noticing changes all around them," the report says, echoing a draft version from last year. "Summers are longer and hotter. ... Rain comes in heavier downpours."
In a statement released to coincide with the report's publication, the White House called for a rapid response.
"The findings in this National Climate Assessment underscore the need for urgent action to combat the threats from climate change, protect American citizens and communities today, and build a sustainable future for our kids and grandkids," the White House said.
Obama and his administration have long said that climate change is already affecting communities. More than 300 experts helped produce the report over several years, updating a previous assessment published in 2009.

If only they put as much effort into job creation like they do on this silly crap..........................
his respect is spent, he isn’t a leader, he can’t lead anything anymore.
Squirrel!
Time to invest in hip waders.
How many more people must lose their jobs to this sect of Luddites?
After I eat a plate of peppers and beans, there will be a call for urgent action.
This, not so much.
He just keeps jumping bigger and bigger sharks. I stopped taking the man seriously before he was elected. And he just gets more and more funny. If I didn’t have the Lord, I’d be desperate.
Everything with Obama and liberals is urgent, some kind of crisis, which demands some quick response.
Going all the way back to early Obama times, we had to pass Porkulus because of the urgency and crisis in the economy, and need for infrastructure repair.
I should say it’s a crisis if it ties in with liberal goals. Other issues, such as Keystone pipeline, can be studied for 5 years, with no firm decision made either way,
Urgent Action = TAX
To O and his henchmen..
You Lie!!
My bullshit decoder ring says:
“Urgent action” —> “investments” —> TAXES
I don’t know. Here in E. Tennessee it’s been warming up lately. It was 6 degrees in January and now it’s near 80 degrees. Seems to happen every year!
I simply cannot share a faith that transfers so much power to them. I have to remain skeptical of Michael Mann, Malcolm Hughes, the hockey stick, and the models created as linchpins to the U.N. International Panel on Climate Change. I am not convinced by the interpretation of selective tree ring, ice core, and coral reef data merged into the instrument measurements of recent centuries. I remain incredulous when raw data disappears after being subjected to linear regression analysis, which also proves mathematically the same visual image would appear for a clusters of boulders at the bottom of a landslide as for Stonehenge.
I guess one of my early doubts came when I recalled a Naval Institute Proceeding article from the early 70s. The subject was a crude oil tanker retrofitted with an ice-breaker bow for transit through the Northwest Passage. I wondered how the Arctic could be continuously warming over the next forty years and there not be regular seasonal passage of merchant traffic between Europe, the West Coast, Japan, Korea and China?
When all the controversy arose about the East Anglia’s emails, I searched through several pages on Google before I finally found the text of the emails. After reading a couple hundred I could confirm understandings that the tenor was arrogant and deceptive. But what really got to me was that they had destroyed research raw data. Other scientists would not be able to conduct their own analysis, or review whether the samples chosen from the population were representative of the whole. Supposedly they were appropriately blessed by six independent (?) reviews. However, for me the destruction of original research data is fatal to the credibility of all involved.
The accumulation of temperature data is also problem for me. The process begins when remote areas are inaccessible. Stations are located in urban areas and within walking or riding distance of an office. Over time transportation becomes easier and more are located in remote areas. However, previous stations keep being swallowed up by urban expansion. Therefore, temperatures have to increase over time because stations increasingly record micro-climate results. I want to see a graph with the last three hundred years on the horizontal axis and all the stations used on the vertical axis. If the data is to be believed then most the original stations would disappear and others would be substituted over time to maintain the same geographic dispersion.
I cannot get past the magnitudes involved in this issue. Carbon dioxide represents less than four particles for 10,000 within the atmosphere. The water vapor that CO2 bonds with for mitigation as in carbonated water is 25 times more plentiful in the atmosphere, and 2.5 million times more plentiful in oceans. The natural engines driving mitigation of a CO2 molecule are awesome, when one considers a single hurricane uses enough energy to power Japan for a year.
Thinking of magnitude reminds me of this article in the National Geographic that pilloried a scientist, whose research involving Mars, demonstrated changes in the earths temperature could be accounted for by changes in the suns intensity. Of course he was dealing with data over a limited time. However, folks did not criticize him for any failure account for other factors that could affect Martian temperatures. Possibly that would bring forward the embarrassing fact that changes in the suns intensity is not considered a huge factor in the climate change models.
If the information is undeniable, then those few deniers would have been destroyed in open debates long ago. The results of those proceedings would have had media air time comparable to that devoted to flight 370. Instead the term climate change has become popular and global warming is now out of style. As far as I am concerned these people we are supposed to place our faith in have a long row to hoe before I am willing to buy into what they are saying.
The ultimate narcissism. Thinking that you ca control the weather. It is a modern Tower of Babel. If mankind unites, we can scale the heaven and wrest the levers of weather control from God.
Odd.
It was cold a few weeks ago, now it’s getting hot.
Really can’t explain it.
Must be globull warming.........er, climate disruption.............
Standby for a blizzard in July....................
I cannot read the report from here. Can someone post up what the “urgent action” is that we have to take?
There was a movie once called ‘Americathon’ starring John Ritter (RIP) as President.
I thought it was a silly stupid idea.
Now, it seems prescient...............

He’s still got a pen and a phone.
