There is a lot of poor writing and poor editing in many articles that appear on the internet.
I haven’t been sick since I began taking Vit D religiously in 2007. I just never did know how much to take - I consume 2000iu right now but don’t know if it is enough. I’m glad you are doing well!
Bump
I think people who live in bad climates tend to over do it when the finally find themselves in the sun. I live in Phoenix and I see far worse sun damage when visiting back east than I do here. I am a friggin fanatic. I cover my legs with a towel when driving, wear spf religiously, cover my hands when driving etc.
I take iodine and the complimentary supplements every single day - after a Freeper, SpaceJunkie2001, told me about it. Thank God! I get my iodine from breastcancerchoices.org. I am also on the yahoo groups email list for Stephanie Bust, a protegee of Dr Brownstein, for iodine.
I tell everyone I know - unfortunately I think too many of them figure I don’t know what I’m talking about or are just not curious.
I wouldn’t know about any of this without Free Republic and I think the information I’ve learned here has made a HUGE difference in my health.
Thank you so much for bringing this up! We need to keep spreading the word. :-))))

I had no idea my wife goes by the name “Vitamin D”?!
I don’t get it. My friend, who spends 1/2 year in St Louis and 1/2 year in Florida, ought to look like an old leather show and she doesn’t look bad at all. She would lay out in the sun when the heat would make me literally sick.
I guess my skin is in better shape but I’ve had 3 skin cancers. So weird!
What kind and how much iodine are you taking...my Naturapath made me stop taking it.
I meant shoe, not old leather show. :-)
Most chronic pain is from sitting and doing nothing. Old age hurts too.
I get it from breastcancerchoices.org. If you go to the yahoo group run by Stephanie Bust, who cured her thyroid cancer by following Dr. Brownsteins iodine protocol, you can find out detailed information about the complimentary supplements that you need to take to balance the iodine. There is also a ton of other information there.
Why did your naturopath say to stop taking it? The Japanese women have one of the lowest rates of breast cancer rates and they eat a ton of fish, and I read that their farmers will mulch the fields with seaweed which of course is very rich in iodine. So it makes a lot of sense to me that on our western diet we don’t get the iodine we need. You ought to check out www.breastcancerchoices.org. I don’t know if you’re male or female but lack of iodine is implicated in many problems for both sexes.
No kidding, my decades of sun-worship have caught up to me in a major way. Still love the sun, but avoid long exposure now like Dracula. Great fun living in the tropic and doing that.
Even transplanted ones with northern European genetic background?
It’s made a huge difference in my health as well. We also strive to avoid iodine competitors in daily life. Iodine has alleviated most of my PCOS symptoms. I was this >< close to a hysterectomy. Managed to avoid that so far.
And here we have a big part of the problem. The cholesterol-phobic avoid egg yolks and liver; many don't care for fatty fish or mushrooms; many adults drink little or no milk; and many avoid sunlight (either because they fear skin cancer, or because they are vampires). Many take fish oil tablets, but note that that's nearly the concentration of vitamin D as fish-liver oil. Do parents still give their kids codfish liver oil, or is that now considered child abuse?
Personally, I do eat "fatty" fish -- generally deep-water fish like tuna -- and egg yolks, and mushrooms, and I get plenty of sun (mostly by tooling around in my roadster, which involves no exercise, but at least I get my natural vitamin D). Even so, on my doc's advice, I take 3000 IUs a day.

Check with you doctor if you take blood thinners. It is best to do oil based vits only 6 days per week, as they can be OD’d.

Thx...my Naturapath is a temporary one...”A she”...my regular one is out of country working in 3rd world country for a year (a he)...I think she just didn’t like me taking iodine...not sure why. Dr Wright of Tahoma Clinic originally had me taking it...Think I may go back to taking it...and i will check out your links.
oh! You go to Dr. Wright! I am trying to get my husband to go there. Were you happy with their care?
I’ve been taking iodine for at least 5 years as well as LOTS of other stuff. I do get a cold now and then (5 year old niece) but last year everyone in my team at work got the flu - all except me.
