Jodielynn Wiley faced being turned out on the street a few weeks ago when her time at the Dallas Salvation Army was nearing an end.
Wiley, a transgender woman who fled from death threats based on her gender identity in Paris, Texas, in February, was staying at the Carr P. Collins Social Service Center off Harry Hines Boulevard since leaving the conservative and dangerous town. She received an extension on her stay until she could be placed in a housing program.
But when an opportunity came up to place her in a two-year housing program with Salvation Army, she said she was told she didn’t qualify because she hasn’t had gender reassignment surgery.
Wiley was meeting with her case worker and a counselor on April 17 to discuss her options before her exit date of April 21. She was told about the longer program and then asked if she had undergone the surgery.

Those are the two genders. Everything else is the result of something gone very wrong.
I've always held the Salvation Army in high regard, so I'm going to take this statement with a grain of salt, coming from an apparently gay-oriented publication as it does.
But, as it reads right now, the implication is that the Salvation Army has a housing program for psychologically disturbed, sexually confused men who have had their sexual organs amputated in the belief that this turns them into women, and refuses housing for psychologically disturbed, sexually confused men who have not had their sexual organs amputated in the belief that this turns them into women.
Does anyone else find this troubling? What does the Salvation Army have to say about it?

At some point, all the church-related charity hostels and shelters will be shut down if they don't stop sorting people by sex. But it's unsafe --- sexually threatening --- to put people of different sexes together in shared-room or dorm-type situations, so they'll have to deal with a spike in sexual molestation and rape amongst the residents, and then lawsuits-lawsuits-lawsuits.
I can't be the only one who sees that.

Using genitalia to sort people into male and female may seem like a logical conclusion to many, but it is unconscionable to require individuals to undergo embarrassing inspections. We run into countless exceptions when we include intersex individuals and those with genital differences and genital injuries. We can’t use chromosomes either because they do not determine sex completely. We have to rely on individuals to tell us what their felt sex is. Our determination to use the two-sex system will always fail those of us that fall outside of the box. I believe we should take care of minorities first. The ones suffering the most discrimination should given the greatest consideration, not the least. I really appreciate Nell Gaither for helping all the shelters understand these complex issues. Remember that our compassion arises through understanding. I encourage all to keep learning more and keep trying!

What a load of dung!
God assigns us a place in the community. He made us male and female. That some people think God made a mistake and wants them to deviate from normality is not the proper basis for a change of genitalia.
God will be the judge and jury in eternity. Most of those caught up in the “sexual orientation” confusion are just seeking to make physical pleasure the dominant part of their life.
At one time, the DSMV labeled homosexuality (and all of its iterations like this one) to be a deviant behavior, but due to political pressures and a vocal/militant LGBT minority, we have come down to being forced to accept them into the larger community.
BUT, homosexuality is the sole search for physical pleasure, at the expense of falling into a deviant behavior. The homosexual community is full of hubris and constantly presents us with open, in-your-face sexual activity.
What someone does in their home/bedroom is none of my business. BUT, when they put their displays in front of my children/grandchildren, I will continue to speak against them and their abhorrent behaviors. This is just more of the same!.

Used to be that mental illness was treated instead of coddled. Reinforcing delusional behavior never leads to positive outcomes for anyone.
I have no hate for transgenders anymore than I ‘hate’ a retarded person, someone with OCD, BiPolar disorder or any other mental illness or dysfunction. But I really have issues with the ‘supposedly’ normal people that abuse them by coddling their problem. And it is very much abuse.
People coddling them should be publicly treated as what they are. Abusers.
