Shapiro: We Live In An Era Where Private Views Can Ruin Your Career
Truth Revolt ^ | 5/1/14 | Paul Bois

Posted on 05/02/2014 7:17:54 AM PDT by Nachum

On Thursday, TruthRevolt Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro appeared on The Kelly File with Megyn Kelly to share his personal concerns about the possible slippery slope of the NBA slapping a lifetime ban on Clipper's owner Donald Sterling for racist views he expressed on an illegally obtained recording, rather than any racist actions he had taken.

"What we are seeing here is that thoughts matter significantly more than actions," said Shapiro, before highlighting prior lawsuits against Sterling alleging racial discrimination toward minorities. "Now he says the wrong thing and the NBA wants to oust him. So we live in an era, unfortunately, when public views and apparently private views that are taped by your girlfriend in the privacy of your own home are more important to the general public than the actions you take."

Kelly responded by suggesting the NBA, and for that matter the general public, ignored past allegations against Sterling on the basis they remained allegations that were either settled or dropped entirely. Shapiro rejected her assertion, saying that multiple lawsuits of racial discrimination should have been embarrassing enough for the NBA to drop Sterling. At least in those past cases, Shapiro implied, Sterling would have been punished for having acted in racist fashion.

I used to sit and ponder how the people of Salem got to the point of “burning witches.” Now I know....

Private words can cause people to force you to divest of your property.

That’s not America.

Wait until Sterling starts discovery.

He is going to subpoena every private utterance of every owner in EVERY PROFESSIONAL SPORT and their immediate family members for the last 20 years.

It is going to be a blood bath.

I can’t wait.

I am also shocked by how this was such a rush to judgement.

This story hit the internet early Saturday morning. By Tuesday afternoon, the commissioner came out with his punishment.

In only three days, did the commissioner really have enough time to evaluate all angles of this situation? Did he really have enough time for the NBA attorneys to evaluate all of the possible legal liability issues involved, such as, were those tapes made illegally, were the tapes part of an extortion or blackmail plot which didn’t work out, who would benefit from secret tapes being made public, etc???

Or was the NBA commissioner simply eager to appease the liberals and the politically correct crowd and black players who threatened a boycott? I wonder if these millionaire black players would really have walked away from their multi million dollar jobs to protest this????

Did the commissioner want to be seen as being strong and politically correct at the same time?

Perhaps some sanction was in order. Losing the team seems like the death penalty for a minor transgression in my opinion. But I am also stunned at how quickly this decision came down.

Other high profile sports transgressions, such as suspensions of Steinbrenner, or the banning of Pete Rose, had penalties imposed after a long period of investigation of those situations. I question how deeply this commish dug into the details in only 3 days.

OK, then. Anyone that hold any liberal view is never to be hired, befriended, or have any business conducted with them. Got it. Liberals want to play this game, let’s paly it.

Sterling has enough money that, if he chooses to, he can hire an army of private investigators. They can search for people willing to talk about politically-incorrect statements made in private by prominent sports celebrities. And it doesn’t have to be just racist statements, it could be homophobic, antisemitic, anti-just-about-anything.

It would be fun to have him prove the ridiculous double-standard.

Antisemitic and/or ant-Christian is applauded in the lynch mobs that went after Sterling.

The best find will be the anti-gay remarks.

It is going to be great popcorn time watching the left eat their own for the next year or so.

Just pulling three names out of my hat, Henry Ford, Woodrow Wilson and Hillary Clinton,
“Although he (Ford) did not officially align with either political party, his prominence as a successful industrialist prompted Woodrow Wilson to convince him to run for Senate as a Democrat. He narrowly lost that race, and although he had copious support for a presidential bid in 1924, never ran for office again.”
Wilson was a vehement racist while Ford was a bitter anti-Semite. Yet the MSM allows the Democrats to preach to the rest of us on racial and religious tolerance and paint conservatives, i.e. anyone repelled by Democrats, as intolerant.

Infanticide proponent and drunken former first lady, killer Hillary Clinton: her criminal negligence caused the deaths of Americans at the Benghazi consulate, her fraud covered it up and yet seven months ago she received a `Liberty Medal’, presented to her by a purported front-runner for the presidency from the altogether too-loyal opposition party.

Keep in mind they’ve already called for the jailing of scientists who deny climate change etc. too...

Look how fast folks abandoned Bundy for his stupid remarks as well. Now not only is he a rancher in violation of the BLM rules...he’s a bigot. So now he ain’t got no rights and many that would have defended before, now run in fear.

When Sterling’s comments came to be broadcast on TMZ, there was no outcry or even remote consideration given to the motives for their release. To me it seems obvious it was blackmail and extortion, but not one peep is made about it.

Instead you had Biden calling Silver to encourage him to lay the harshest of penalties on Sterling. Think about that for a moment...The WHITE HOUSE called Silver to lend its support? I want a transcript of that phone call Biden made.
