A Labor Department official said claims tend to be more volatile around Easter.
The four-week moving averaged also claimed back to 320,000, an increase of 3,000.
The consensus seems to be that yesterday's abysmal Q1 GDP figure was a blip. "Among the indicators suggesting much more strength than Q1 GDP is the ADP series; it was reported up a healthy 220K in April," HFE's Jim O'Sullivan writes in a note this morning. "We still forecast a 3.5% pace for real GDP in Q2. We also forecast a 185K rise in payrolls in the BLS report on Friday, a little below the 215K consensus but a solid number after allowing for the tendency recently for upward revisions to initially reported data."
Here's what the moving average has looked like until today.

Agreed - I was just pondering this morning what the news would sound like if journalists were corrupt the other way, leaning conservative. For one thing, the White House would not be occupied by this traitor.
Damn you, Don Sterling!
the weather again , ,
There was an interesting segment on O’Reilley last night where he documented extremely biased coverage about Benghazi and tried to get his two guests to admit that the media was protecting Obama. Neither one would admit the obvious.
Where I am from caravans of families would form and go to where the jobs were in the ‘50’s, why not go to the western oil fields where they are begging for people who will work and paying good money. I see little evidence that jobs are coming back from Asia now or in the future. Adapt or get on the teat, it is now the American way. Whining aint going to change a thing.
Leftists expect ObamaCare, Stimulus, massive expansions of government regulations, and the crony capitalism of the far left fringe to start working this week. Next week at the latest. What are the chances that policies supported by the Smartest Man in the World would fail again? It was one in a million that they would fail in their first week, and for that to happen for five consecutive years is almost unthinkable.
Just saying, last year America sold China 122 billion.
Last year China sold America 440 billion.
We need to sell things. America needs to sell things.
Now.

Not sure how they can use the word “unexpectedly” when IL Duce Barack has had such a “laser focus” on job creation.
I manage a Garden Center. I’m expected to do more and more with less and less and STILL turn a profit. Luckily, I’m THAT good. *SMIRK*
For now. I appreciate my job, but our industry, like any other, will have it’s good and bad years. This one, with the horrific Winter and the PAINFULLY SLOW start to Spring, is going to be a doozy!
Oh, and 0bamacare sure as chit ain’t helping! I’m limited to 29 hour weeks, even for my most productive workers, our medical Flex Fund has been cut to the BONE and eliminated for all save a few full-time employees, and when our premiums go up next year, it’s gonna be ug-lee!
The only shovel ready jobs created by big government liberals would be cleaning up the manure they keep spreading.
You may be pulling the wagon, but the freeloaders don't think you are pulling hard enough. They need you.
LOL!
I love that! :)
Why work when you can get food stamps/EBT, a housing allowance, ObamaCare, an ObamaPhone, and everything else you want for free. Obama just hands the loot out from his stash, so who needs jobs?
Feel free to use it at any time.............unexpectedly.....................
No kidding! I truly DO feel that way some days. However, I’m fighting back! Gave myself a ‘raise’ by increasing my 401K (pre-tax dollars) deposit and changed my with holdings so I get my $ all year long - no refunds for me - no TAX FREE LOANS to deadbeats for the year.
(I had to wait a bit, post-divorce, to see how the numbers shook out...)
I suggest everyone else do the same! STARVE THE BEAST!
Sounds like my work place. .....................Except it’s electronics not plants.................
