High Point police say the woman who died in a head-on collision Thursday was posting selfies and updating her Facebook status moments before the fatal crash. Courtney Ann Sanford, 32, of Clemmons, updated her Facebook status with: The happy song makes me HAPPY one minute before the crash was called in to police, investigators say.
These posts were brought to investigators attention by family and friends, said Lt. Charles Lanier with the High Point Police Dept. Investigators say that she also was taking pictures of herself while driving. The posts were very close proximity in time to our first calls on the crash.
Lanier said that the Facebook status update was posted at 8:33 a.m. Police and rescue workers were called to the crash at 8:34 a.m.
Sanford was heading north on Business 85 at Baker Road when her 2005 Toyota Corolla crossed the median into oncoming traffic. Her car slammed into a company-owned truck that was headed southbound. The crash shut down the highway for several hours. Police say it appeared that Sanford died upon impact.
North Carolina outlawed texting and driving in December 2009 and, although the law does not specifically mention Facebook and Twitter, the law says drivers may not manually enter multiple letters or text in the (mobile telephone) as a means of communicating with another person.
Lanier said that Sanfords death serves as a reminder about distracted driving. Youve got to pay attention on the road, he said. Theres so much going on, you cant afford to be looking down at a phone or a computer or taking pictures of yourself. That takes a great deal of attention off of what youre doing. Nothing is worse than losing your life or the life of someone else to tell people how youre doing.

Kalifornia has laws against such, but they're blatantly ignored - by both drivers and the po-lice, from what I can gather.
Nor her looks....Mike Tyson in drag.
Good thing they passed a law against texting and driving.
Otherwise, someone could have been kil... wait.
Anyone say how the driver of the truck make out? Sounds like he’s the victim here.
Maybe small pictures are similar to closing time beauty; fuzzy and not relevant to reality.
I’m driving right now. Reading this post and typing this message.
Yaaaaaawn. I’m feeling a bit tired. I think I’ll take a short nap. Set the cruse control and then............
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
At least she died Happy.
There’s a good chance that some greedy plaintiff’s lawyer will blame the road — and sue the taxpayers.
Please explain.
Were there grammatical errors?
Are the facts not clear?
We need to outlaw facebook, or at least require people to show they are sane and safe to use FB.
And we need to put looks on all computers least children use it.
What does it say about our society that a woman can reach the age of 32 and still be stuck at 12 in terms of intellectual and emotional maturity? Good grief! I hope she did not have any children. Prayers up for her loved ones.
I am not seeing the problem with the writing. It is not great writing, but my quick reading of the piece did not detect grammatical errors and typos.
We do not have a photo here of the deceased woman.
BAN FACEBOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never heard of this song until I read this piece.
Can't find out anything much else about her. Shame.
You can't save the "stuck on stupid" Obamabots. But I do feel bad at the mention of every innocent victim these retards kill.
It also infuriates me that these stories fail to mention the names and bios of the innocent victim(s). I couldn't care less for the self centered egomaniacs who produce daily carnage.
I wish everybody would lighten up and show some sympathy for the poor woman and her bereaved family. As a parent of three in their 20s, I pray that I never have to face a day where I get a call saying one of them has died from such a horrible accident.
I agree. I refuse to use Facebook, Twitter and especially don’t text while driving.
But that doesn’t mean there is anything at all to either poke fun at or take satisfaction in this even.
This woman is dead due to her lack of good judgement, and it was fortunate she didn’t take anyone else with her.
I think we can all agree she paid for her mistake. I don’t think it shows us in a good light to write the things we are. We should stop it here.
