De Blasio wants to ban new wood fireplaces

Mayor Bill de Blasio celebrated Earth Day on Tuesday by proposing more regulations — including a ban on new wood-burning fireplaces.

The mayor made the proposal, along with those for other sweeping regulations that he said would update emission standards and help curb air pollution.

Instead of wood-burning fireplaces, de Blasio wants to allow only cleaner-burning units, such as those that use natural gas.

Residents who already have wood-burning fireplaces would be allowed to keep them, but would be required to use only firewood that has 20 percent moisture or less, according to the Department of Environmental Protection.

Officials said that drier wood burns more cleanly and releases fewer toxins into the air.

Appearing with City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and DEP Commissioner Emily Lloyd, de Blasio said he would also seek legislation that would crack down on food trucks and refrigeration vehicles.

He specifically wants food trucks to switch from diesel engines to electric.

The mayor said such small changes “will make a fundamental difference for thousands of New Yorkers living with asthma.”

and then document every piece of wood you chuck into the fireplace

Would that be a log log?

Probably old wood costs more than new wood.

Maybe De Blasio has friends who sell firewood.

“What’s a cord of firewood going for in the big apple?”

A couple friends and I had a little side business going once. Cut, delivered and stacked - 17 bucks. That was in 1969-70, in WA State. Of course, fuel oil was .17 a gallon, too.

[...] would be required to use only firewood that has 20 percent moisture or less [...]

ROTFLMAO!!!

Put that 20% wood under a tarp, let it sit there through the fall rains and a few freeze/thaw cycles as the snows come in... Then measure it again.

Anyone who has ever forgot to fill the kindling and keep it dry... Who had to try to start a fire with kindling straight from the woodpile knows the idiocy of that statement.

Perhaps there could be a new city agency to enforce the 20% moisture content in firewood, armed, of course.

Replace ‘De Blasio’/’the son of a bitch’ with ‘Obama’ and ‘New York’/’New Yorkers’ with ‘America’/’Americans’ and let’s see what the amen corner has to say here.

If you don’t care about New York, why not just ignore New York threads?

...0bama...America...

Oh I must be mistaken, because I thought 0 won in NYC with something like 85% of the popular vote. I don't recall him being nearly as popular in the rest of the country.

If you don’t care about New York

Oh, but I do care about NY. I care that for decades NY has been exporting tyranny and statism to the rest of the country. I do care that the majority of new yorkers not only want to be serfs to the government, but want the rest of the country to be in chains too. I care about NY because the stupidity and militant ignorance that defines liberal thought festers there and is sent out to destroy the rest of the country with NY's elected representatives. If I could cut NY and the smug self absorbed ignoranuses that make up the vast majority of the voting populace there and let them go to hell on their own I would in a heartbest, but unfortunately, NY won't ignore me. upChuckie Schemer and Hillary are constantly trying to pass gun control that would affect me. Your fine democratic crew from NY has never met a tax increase that theydidn't love, and let's not forget their voting record on 0bamacare.

So, sport, much as I'd like to ignore NY the evil that flows from the populace there won't let me alone.

Stop. I have as much if not more reason to despise the ones you’re talking about, and I do. Don’t call me sport, or any kid names. I didn’t treat you with any disrespect, and I won’t accept any from you. Is this how your mother raised you? Have a think about who you’re offending when you write what you do on threads like this. It’s not Democrats, nor any part of the left. If your attitude to this part of America is indeed what you’re asserting, what part of America is next for you to let go of? California? Or maybe give up on the whole east coast and west coast along with Chicago and Detroit. How do you feel about Atlanta? Should that be let go too? What about the parts of Georgia on the coast? You’ll paint yourself into a corner eventually, thinking like you do. Where do you think many of the idiot New Yorkers that voted in De Blasio are going to go if he’s allowed to wreck the city for what’s left of the middle class? I hope you like bagels and pizza in your neighborhood.

Have a think about who you’re offending when you write what you do on threads like this

Two things:

  1. Last time I looked there was no right "not to be offended" in the constitution and
  2. I don't really care if I offend someone. You remind me of blacks looking desperately for something to be offended by. The sad truth is that the majority of New Yorkers would be happier in North Korea. The rest of the country surely would be better off if they were.
You chose to chide me for rightly criticising New Yorkers as one of the most destructive forces destroying liberty in this country as they have been for as long as I can remember. SO if my response is not to your liking, too damn bad. If you can't take the heat say out of the kitchen

If your attitude to this part of America is indeed what you’re asserting, what part of America is next for you to let go of? California?

Not a bad idea either. The bulk of the populace in NY and CA might be American in name, but they sure as hell aren't American in values. They're whining jackboot licking statists who demand to be ruled which is bad enoughbut then they want to force their perverted values on the rest of us. And you are part of the problem. Rather than acknowledging the obvious truth of my statement, you choose to be "offended." Well too bad. Clean up your act in Moscow on the Hudson and then maybe you can legitimately be offended when someone criticizes New Yorkers.

Why don’t you clean up your own backyard, and leave New York for New Yorkers to handle then? You can start here:

The argument is not about whether Georgia is worse or better than New York. If you’re interested in understanding, re-read what I’ve already written with the realization that I don’t defend accusations about leftist horror here - I’m often here commenting about them. It’s simply that you’ve made malicious comments that I thought an American conservative was better than and I called you out on them. If you want to prove me wrong, I’m not going to stop you.

Depends on the neighborhood. In my hometown in northeast Queens, I can’t think of a house that does NOT have one.

Reread what I wrote.

Don't think I'll bother. It was a bunch of baseless whining the first time, and I don't thinks it will be any different now. The majority of New Yorkers are a menace to freedom and liberty. You seem to think that somehow you have the right to silence those who say so. If you're offended too bad, but New Yorkers deserve every bad consequence their leftist choices bring them - and more.
