The presidents of the Phi Delta Alpha fraternity and the Alpha Phi sorority at Dartmouth have canceled a fundraiser for cardiac care over concerns that the theme Phiesta might be offensive.
The event, planned for Saturday, invited community members to hear a band play and enjoy virgin piña coladas and strawberry daiquiris, chips and salsa, guacamole and burritos.
All proceeds would have gone toward cardiac treatments, according to an article in The Dartmouth, the official campus newspaper.
But when Daniela Hernandez 15 heard about the event, she sent an email to complain that the theme was racially insensitive.

Phi Delt president Taylor Catchcart said Hernandezs concerns were worth cancelling the entire event.
We felt that the possibility of offending even one member of the Dartmouth community was not worth the potential benefits of having the fundraiser, Cathcart told The Dartmouth.
Greek members held an informal meeting to discuss insensitivity in response to the event.

“The possibility for offense” — how pansy is that? Can’t anyone have a theme party anymore? What’s next—will toga parties be found offensive to Italians and “Animal House” be banned?
Pholks, it’s high time we stopped letting ONE (15 year old) WHINER’s thin skin interrupt things that are so much bigger and matter so much more than hurt feelings.
Anyone with any sense would have challenged that girl, face to face, about how her self-focused complaint would hurt so many others who counted on this fundraiser.
Disgusting PC wienies.
America has raised its own generation of “Red Guards” just waiting for the cultural revolution to start.
Not a 15 year old...class of 2015. Old enough to know better...
The accusation that someone being a racist is all that the Democrats and the Democrats Left Stream Media need today for control a large population of people who dare to think and/or speak the same ideas as the accused racist.
Thus, the power of the word racist is valid only as long as no facts are required by the targeted population to substantiate the accusation by those who do the accusing.
If, someday, the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty by the facts, then the power of false accusatory words such as racists, domestic terrorists and other mind-control words will be relegated to the low level used by the school yard bullies who tried to manipulate all of us back in the day.
IOW, we, OURSELVES, allow ourselves to be manipulated because we have forgotten the words of wisdom from our early childhoods: Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me! Nanny, Nanny, Boo-Boo!
Wake up America! The Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement have long since been Won and Done!
Time to grow up America, reject the PC Word Police, mind-control, school-yard bullies of the Left!
If We, the People, stand for FREEDOM of speech, then insist that ALL, (especially the manipulators on The Left), listen as well as they speak!
It is time - - - time for a change.
That would be class of 2015 not 15 year old.
I think the proper, intellectual response to Daniela would be ‘piss off!’.
Remember when “race relations” only mattered as to how MOPAR, Ford and GM folks got along at the drag strip?
I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. Political correctness and idiots seem to go together.
This country is finished. Slaughtered by ‘diversity’.
I think the Spanish language should be banned in America. After all, they use the word “Negro,” which is highly offensive to one small part of one minority group in America.
We felt that the possibility of offending even one member of the Dartmouth community was not worth the potential benefits of having the fundraiser, Cathcart told The Dartmouth.
If I didn’t know how idiotic people have become, I would have thought that was a quote from the Onion.
We’d rather not have a charity event at all, rather than hurt somebody’s feelings! Wouldn’t it be hysterical if Daniela’s parents dropped dead tomorrow of a heart attack? Oops, that’s insensitive...
There's a Margarita's just south of Dartmouth College on 120. :-)
Is Daniela Hernandez an illegal? If so, if one college student complains that she is such, will she be sent back to Mexico, but given sensitivity training about our immigration laws so she won’t offend any Americans in the future?
Daniela isn’t the slightest bit offended...she’s just another in a long line of female control freaks, and she is going to get away with it. Why doesn’t she go after all the Mexican-themed restaurants in the area?
They might as well just give it an Irish theme—we’re not that sensitive.
