When Luka Ladan started his freshman year at Vassar College in southeast New York, he started noticing a difference between himself and the majority of his classmates.
We were talking about the upcoming election, he said. I was in a class talking about Republicans Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush. Whenever a name was mentioned, one kid would snicker and then five to seven would just laugh at the name.
This is a common experience in this age group: 66 percent of 18- to 29-year-olds voted for Obama in 2008 and 60 percent did in 2012 the largest numbers in decades, according to the Pew Research Center.
I would say a lot of liberals on campus are a lot more vocal, a lot more in your face, she said. I know I have or my friends have spoken up about their views in political science classes and we get beaten down and laughed at.
The liberal classroom climate hasnt stopped Haas from standing up for her conservative point of view.
Ive started coming out in classes, she said. The faculty are I dont want to say oppressive but they are very not open to other views.

wasnt Vasser a womens college??
When I was in college at the time of the 2000 election, there were two people running based on all of the propaganda around campus.
The two? Al Gore, and Ralph Nader.
Vassar’s been co-ed for about 35 years.
The faculty doesn't want their views challenged so they shut down the opposition.....yeah, I'll say it then. They're oppressive.
The young are generally more liberal because they haven’t experienced the adult world—the real world. Schools and college are worlds unto themselves, and they bear little resemblance to life in the adult world. Even though college-aged people are technically adults, they don’t generally have experience working, paying taxes, raising a family, etc. that is part of what I call the adult world.
That is why we should take the leftist meme that young adults are pro-homosexual or socialist with a grain of salt. These “adults” will wise up once they make contact with the real world outside the ivory towers of academia.
Nothing more intolerant than a tolerant liberal.
BTT
This is true. But most professors really are into things being done according to scholarly standards. They’re happy for students to believe their crap, but if you don’t, just make sure you have backing for what you believe.
Unless they coagulate in adults cesspools, like here in MA. Then they stay adults forever, never graduating to actual adults.
This is why I prefer to discuss matters on FR. I can dig up the old articles/citations (from several sources even) and wait for the response.
Forget about engaging in any honest debate based on facts on Facebook, twitter, or any Yahoo/CNN/Time/HuffPost etc "comments" under an article. And in a bar or restaurant? Forget it (unless maybe you want to spend over an hour dredging up articles on your smart phone to show the doubting thomases.

“I wore a uniform on campus during the Vietnam War. Tell me about it.”
In the 70s I had to wade through a mob of antiwar hippys blocking the entrance to my school during a “moratorium”. When I got to the entrance a bunch of them tried to keep me from entering the building. A scuffle began and I punched one of the a-holes in the nose (breaking it I think). Then I high-tailed it down the hall to my class where I was met by the teacher who was not at all happy that I had made it to class. Good times.
I was in a coffee shop a few days ago and there was a small group of college kids at a table talking about some issue overseas. Then one poindexter says “I listen to Obama and I just wanna fly. We can do it! I go to sleep and shower listening to his speeches”. No jokes, this kid was having an Obamagasm. Me and the relatively old barrista shared a look, rolling our eyes and I left. I hope he put strychnine in that cup. What a little parasite.
It’s funny. I went to college with *some* liberal ideology, and come out a conservative. Go figure.
Hows he know its not real conservatives laughing at him for being a fanboy of Mittens and Jeb Bush? If I heard some kid talking seriously about those losers, i’d laugh my butt off and send him to the kids table.
A bigger question is what is a conservative on a college campus.
If you find a college “conservative” at the University of Michigan, 9 times out of 10 he’ll be to the left of John McCain. At a conservative college the number might be 4 out of 10.
Well done!
