GOP Scrambles To Condemn Rancher's Remarks on Race

Republicans – including possible 2016 candidate Rand Paul -- are scrambling to distance themselves from defiant Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy after he made startling comments about slavery and African-Americans in a New York Times article published Wednesday night.

From the Times’ Adam Nagourney:

“I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro,” he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, “and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids — and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch — they didn’t have nothing to do. They didn’t have nothing for their kids to do. They didn’t have nothing for their young girls to do.

“And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do?” he asked. “They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.”

Bundy had previously drawn support from some GOP lawmakers for his clash with the Bureau of Land Management.

[snip]

In statements after Bundy’s remarks, both Paul and Heller condemned his comments.

"His remarks on race are offensive and I wholeheartedly disagree with him,” said Paul.

And a spokesman for Heller told the Times that the senator “completely disagrees with Mr. Bundy’s appalling and racist statements, and condemns them in the most strenuous way.”

Well thats it.

Any support he had from people that believed in him is out the door because of “RASIS!” remarks.

All whimpy people who are scared to death of being called “RASIS!” will distance themselves as not to upset the All Mighty PC Gods.

The All Mighty PC Gods come first. Above anything else, regardless of the situation, PC comes first.

The Politically Correct™ brigade will come down hard on him as if he was killing kittens on his ranch.

Mr. Bundy shows a certain degree of”Insensitivity”,but he is pretty much “On The Money”when he describes the plight of The Black Family under”Government Subsidies”.The”War On Poverty”(The Great Society)is consdered to be “Well-Intentioned”?Unfortunately,these “Good Intentions”have NOT yielded “Good Results”(unless you consider that The DemonRats “OWN” at least 93% of The Black Vote)!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What difference does it make? They are slaves either way except by living off the government they willingly place themselves in servitude to the government.

So...what's wrong with Mr. Bundy’s remarks?

He wasn't supposed to notice all the people sitting around doing nothing. Certainly wasn't supposed to point out that it was the government having them sitting around doing nothing.

Well since he doesn’t recognize the existence of the U.S. government then he probably doesn’t recognize that whole 13th Amendment thing either.

I’m still waiting to hear a recording of this. Supposedly the statements were made at a press conference last Saturday and these comments were only “overheard” by the NYT? No one else heard this? No recordings despite the fact that cell phone cameras are ubiquitous?

“I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro,” he said.

Think what you will about the situation...but no good will derive from anyone starting topic with that sentence.

While I'm sure your correct about no good coming from it, I think it is more a generational thing than any actual malice, Mr. Bundy isn't exactly a young polished public speaker. My father, who was from the same generation as Mr. Bundy, always referred to blacks as “colored” until the day he died. There wasn't a racist bone in his body and he actually had hired blacks to work in his electrician business before the civil rights era when it actually could hurt your business to do so (many work sites wouldn't even allow black workers). In fact I'm guessing that “colored” WAS the poltically correct term in his era, when most just used the N-word.

y guess is Bundy has never been around 10 Blacks total in his life.

His church teachings about the inferiority of the negro might have had something to do with it.

Yeah, but Phil’s comments were warmly received by America. And when A&E had a hissy fit and suspended Phil?

It backfired against them big time.

But what Bundy just said? Forget about it. He’s done.
