Adding to this: The dog was shot in the BACK of the head.
Good job Deputy Jerred Dooley. You are a really brave cop.
The two hour delay in arriving? Just an administrative problem.

“Officials with the Rains County Sheriff Office told KETK, Deputy Jerred Dooley responded to the call at 2:41 p.m., nearly two hours after the initial call for help. According to Rains County Communication Supervisor Patrick Wilson, the two hour delay was investigated and the cause was found and corrected with administrative actions.”
According to an necropsy the family sent KETK, Dr. Kevin Bankston of the Hopkins County Veterinary Clinic examined Candy and determined the Blue Heeler was shot in the head from behind.
In my estimation, based on my pathology findings, the trajectory of the bullet could best be described as caudal rostral, i.e. from the back of the head towards the nose. These findings suggest that Candy was shot while retreating from the shooter.
Better Jerred Dooley had not arrived at all.
Shot in the back.
Well, the LEO got to go home safely that night.
Good thing he didn’t shoot Marcus Luttrell’s dog.
They're supposed to bring them to Obama for dinner.
I stand by what I wrote/said.
I want to see the dash cam video first.
Blue Heelers/cattle dogs are working dogs with very distinct traits. Do a youtube video search for them actually working and be amazed by what you see.
BUT...they will herd and defend. Watch their movements in the videos and I’d bet if you encountered one of these dogs, you’d be a bit distressed by the encounter.
They will attempt to herd just about anything and a stranger on the property is a big one! When I first met Maverick earlier this week he had to be tethered so I could walk into the yard. Now that he knows what I am there to do I can walk on without trouble. I can’t say that for anyone else just yet.
Here is a Blue Heeler doing his job with cattle, keep in mind he would do this to a stranger walking onto a farm as well. Notice the charging up, nipping, and backing off. The dog in question in the incident was likely doing this behavior and was shot in the back of the head when he circled back to reposition. http://youtu.be/J5wyxivlNMY A good heeler, doesn’t runaway.
I’ve come to the conclusion over the years that the only people who want to be police are the last people you want doing it. Same with politicians, by the way.
“I am really beginning to believe that the cops are not our friends.”
Just beginning? I came to that conclusion twenty years ago!
I think you have this wrong.
The only people encouraged to continue pursuing a career in law enforcement at our police academies are those who would rather follow orders than recognize that some orders can be violations of human rights. They obey Constitutional restrictions only when they must, not because they should.
Amen. I would never call one unless I absolutely had to and then I would make sure my dogs were locked up. I don’t even ever want to talk to a cop because nothing good can come of that either.
Dooley is a pig.
I disagree. I've been around blue heelers all my life. What he is though does start with a 'p'.
I saw an update on this story on the news tonight.
The deputy got canned...as he well should have been. He wasn’t on the force that long. Can’t remember the exact length of employment...but only a matter of months.
“...The deputy got canned...”

Wow! My compliments to the Rains County Sheriffs’ office for the quick AND CORRECT action. Usually the involved “law enforcement” departments circle the wagons to protect the wussy, cowardly cop. But this Texas department did the right thing by their county’s citizens. Props to them.
deputy got fired
So why don’t they train the Jack Booted Thugs just to stay in their cars when they arrive 30 minutes to 30 hours later.
Do they really think the criminals are going to hang around and wait for them.
Not like the property owner can’t see the bubble gum machine pull up.
