Moscow orders Kiev to withdraw troops from Ukraine's Donbass region

Russia has warned the Ukrainian government to pull its military from the restive southeast of its own territory, saying it could invade to “protect” pro-Russian separatists there – just as it did in Georgia, another former Soviet republic that Moscow invaded six years ago.

In an interview with the Kremlin-owned RT (Russia Today) television station, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov for the first time compared the situation in Ukraine’s Donbass region – where pro-Russian gunmen have seized control of strategic locations in at least 10 cities – to South Ossetia, a breakaway region of Georgia. Russia invaded parts of Georgia following an exchange of fire between Georgian and South Ossetian troops in August, 2008. That war lasted just six days, ending in humiliating defeat for the Georgian army and solidifying South Ossetia’s de facto independence from Tbilisi.

Ukrainians understand that threat regardless if we or others don't...besides look who is sitting in their Gov. currently?

The people sitting in their government is the Ukrainian Rada, the same one that was democratically elected a few years ago.

without polls or an election...and who's running now? Same repeat as before

You reveal your ignorance. Switch off Russia today and please stop spreading information on this forum when you don't actually have any idea about Ukraine and Russia.

By the way, the Russian controlled Militants, who were the ones not actually elected to anything, do not want any voting or the election for May. They've declared their intention that they do not want it to happen, probably because they're aware of the polling data for East and South Ukraine.

....”Ukrainian Rada, the same one that was democratically elected a few years ago”....

The same ones that got them into the mess they are in today.....you cannot keep electing the same oligarchs that robbed and cheated the nation all along...and that’s what they are doing.

Further Ukraine Gov has nothing to say about what’s happening there now...it’s ALL being handled for them otherwise.

Further it’s more than comical you referring to polls.....they’ll be lucky if they make it to an election at all. But then better for those sitting in office now to consolidate their positions.

The same ones that got them into the mess they are in today.

Note that you went from denying that Ukraine had a democratically elected government to then declaring that they are the ones who "got them into the mess they are in." You do not operate rationally. But as to your new claim, it was not the Ukrainian rada that had the Berkut kidnap and torture people in the run up to the Maidan, and then later began murdering people with sniper rifles. This was the action of Yanukovich under the direction of the Russian GRU.

you cannot keep electing the same oligarchs

The same oligarchs supporting the Kremlin? Can you name any of them who are members of the Ukrainian parliament, by the way?

Further Ukraine Gov has nothing to say about what’s happening there now...it’s ALL being handled for them otherwise.

What does that mean? Are you saying that the Kremlin is "taking care of things" in East Ukraine?

Further it’s more than comical you referring to polls.....they’ll be lucky if they make it to an election at all.

It's not comical at all. Part of the Russian propaganda war is in painting the Ukrainian government as having no support, and that everybody wants Russia to invade. The will of the people points otherwise. As for "they'll be lucky if they make it to an election at all." You can improve that luck by ceasing your shilling for the Kremlin dictator who is doing everything he can to keep those elections from happening.

But then better for those sitting in office now to consolidate their positions.

More lies. It is the self-proclaimed mayor of the "People's Republic of Donetsk" who has declared that they will not accept any election. It is the Ukrainian rada that wants the elections.

I’m rather reminded of the Austrian ultimatum to
Serbia, wherein they demanded the right to come on
Serbian soil and arrest and detain Serbs accused of
anti-austrian protests and crimes.

It was the ONE clause that Serbia would not agree to,
it was not long after that that mobilization started
and war by the powers was on.

Coming up on the 100 anniversary in just a month or so.

I prefer not engaging with you as you take a liberal stance in how you respond by twisting what I say in order to support frame your position.

If I recall right, you have family members in Ukraine and so it’s easy to understand you’re desire would be to support the Ukraine’s Maiden group and those who desire to be under European rule. Unfortunately Ukraine has to choose both Russia and the Eu to work with and must remain neutral...otherwise the country will split as seen happening now.....So Until the current Gov. Leadership is gone the outcry against them will continue.....

600 US troops plus in Poland and more in Latavia, Estonia etc. what do you expect..we step into Ukraine without the masks everybody else is wearing? ...Laughing because you say the Russians aren't invited into Ukraine, (though many live there) but then neither are the Americans invited...perhaps this will convince you..

F those Russian scum. They do not control the government. The government of Ukraine wants the Russians out of Ukraine.

The governments of Poland, Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania have invited the US because they know the history of Russia’s naked aggression against the small guy on the block.

We do know that Russian special forces and agents are in Ukraine. Americans are not in Ukraine. The simple facts are that Russia illegally annexed Crimea and now they are provoking in Eastern Ukraine.

If the Russians keep it up they will be back in bread lines. The West, just like Reagan did, will break them economically, if they persist in these childish bullying aggressions.

What are you talking about? I am hispanic. I have family members, like bunny rabbits, spread across the United States, Mexico and Spain, though mostly concentrated in Texas. None are in Ukraine. I am simply an American patriot and an anti-communist.

Unfortunately Ukraine has to choose both Russia and the Eu to work with and must remain neutral...

Ukraine can do whatever it wants, and the Russkies and Europeans have no business in it. I support Ukrainian freedom from tyranny; I support the Ukrainian people's right to resist a second holodomor and to defend themselves from enemy aggression; I support Ukrainian self determination without threat of being kidnapped, beaten and murdered, if they don't have opinions that Moscow approves of; I support de-communization of all Eastern-bloc states, and the United States for that matter, and the dismantling of Moscow's secret soviet structures.

Meant no offense, I mistook you for another freeper who does have family members there.

I don't think Ukraine is going to have the option of doing what it wants sort of becoming worse than the welfare state it has been, not thanks to those in office who consistently rip it off. Russia certainly isn't going to let it go yet, it's going to be a good long while to get the alternative pipeline up and operating, which bypasses Ukraine entirely. They may have cooked their own goose in that respect.

The Eu and the US will basically be babysitting Ukraine for many years. But dang, we're the primary mover in reconstructing the gov. and the infastructure earmarked ahead...they have too few skilled enough to do what's needed to turn the country around, and no money of their own..it's all gone.

Heck they aren't even able to feed their military! So much for us sending rations to them and they still aren't eating. Call went out for "neighbors" to do some of that lifting.

Further I don't see Ukraine away from the tyranny that's been there all along...as said, same ol people in charge sucking even the IMF funds already.

Yat's just went to Rome to meet the pope 'on IMF funds'.. yet he's a millionare himself...while the people struggle to survive there. So he's no better then those who preceeded him.

As I mentioned..this was out of Ukraine's citizens hands long ago...it's not about them now. Never was...and certainly nothing to do with the cry of freedom when they keep electing the same crooks over again.

I don’t agree with what Russia is doing, but on the same hand there certainly are clearly different rules for some than other nation states when it comes to “invasion”.

The Eu/US have been moving across the eastern globe since the end of the cold war,.... how has Russia posed a threat to Europe or the Us?...

Further US endorsement of maidan’s right sector fascists violence, as a legitimate means of a coup, and installing a US appointed un-elected Gov in it’s place is somehow suppose to be acceptable?????..... but only as long as it is sanctioned by the US???? Otherwise, why would the outrage be as it is for those areas of Ukraine who are resisting the Kiev Governments take over of their Capital..and they’re called terrorists!

I find it very surprising that any here would think that the US doesn’t have it’s people, equally hiding behind masks, in Ukraine. The CIA and others have been there from the get go.

US didn’t like Russian missiles in Cuba. Russia is not happy with EU/US/Nato on their border....it’s really at the heart of this...and that simple.

“I find it very surprising that any here would think that the US doesn’t have it’s people, equally hiding behind masks, in Ukraine.”

The only people I know of that believe this to be the case are AlexJones and GeorgeNoory.

“The CIA and others have been there from the get go.”

That is fanciful and unsupported speculation.

“Russia is not happy with EU/US/Nato on their border....it’s really at the heart of this...and that simple.”

Then I’d suggest that Russia join the world’s civilized nations and begin to behave as a responsible nation. It is losing credibility by the hour and you will see more nations attempting to join the West’s sphere, after these illegal activities from Russia.

......” I’d suggest that Russia join the world’s civilized nations and begin to behave as a responsible nation”....

And just “who’s” standards of civilization would you suggest as being responsible???? Surely not ours, nor that of the EU....for neither could be said to be civilized as they once were.

You say that my stating CIA is in Ukraine as being ‘fanciful’ and ‘speculative’????....Oh Really?.......’CIA director’ John Brennan traveled to Kiev, well reported and also confirmed by the Whitehouse, so his visit to Kiev begs one question... ‘Who’ is governing Ukraine or what is left of it?....It’s also known that The Director of CIA makes such trips when his physical presence is required to authorize and fund CIA funded operations in a country.

Further...nobody’s said the head of Russia’s FSB is in Kiev as well? Sheesh rb, everyone knows the country is already in the midst of a covert intelligence war.

So, you are a moral relativist that can’t see the difference of common standards accepted by most civilized countries and that of typical rogue nations like Iran and North Korea.

Russia is showing it wants to be lumped in with these groups of rogue nations. Russia is destroying its credibility by its illegal actions of aggression against its neighbors.

Again...which countries “standards” should the worlds nations adapt to? ....and who determines these?

Our country at one time stood by the standards of conduct and behavior of Gods word...we cannot say this today and in fact look more like in the same European death grip that Europe has experienced when they turned away from God.

You are wrong to assume there are “common standards” among countries.....although all do now kill babies and justify it.

You mention Russia being a rogue nation?????....well I will say the same of the USA as it continues to defy and ignore ‘our constitution’ and gives protection to criminals via our laws while victums are considered at fault...the list could easily go on and on......Further the US continues going into other nations to take out nation leaders who do not co-operate with the European Agenda. That is a fact and well known.

Russia is showing one thing ...that it will continue to oppose the push for World Dominance by the EU/NATO/US alliances, just as they continue to seek protect and defend their areas of influence.

Egypt refused...Libya attempted to do so , Mubarach refused to go along and also Syria...and where are they today?

This push for integration of as many nations as possible into a European controlled entity is no better than Russia’s push to gain allies as well...thus Bric...and other movements now taking place.

The difference is Europe hasn’t yet shown the real teeth it will one day reveal on those it controls and will control in the future.....

So it still boils down to powerful people condensing the world nations under their control.
