Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal is expected to sign legislation Wednesday expanding gun rights in the state.
The bill, described by the National Rifle Associations lobbying arm as "the most comprehensive pro-gun reform legislation introduced in recent state history," expands the scope of public places where licensed owners are allowed to carry firearms.
The bill makes several changes to state law. It allows those with a license to carry to bring a gun into a bar without restriction and into some government buildings that don't have certain security measures. It also allows religious leaders to decide whether it's OK for a person with a carry license to bring a gun into their place of worship.
Democrats resisted the proposal, although they conceded it would pass in the GOP-dominated House of Representatives. They argued that allowing guns in more places will not make society safer and may lead to more deaths.
Under the bill, school districts would now be able, if they wanted, to allow some employees to carry a firearm under certain conditions. The bill also eliminates the fingerprinting requirement for renewing weapons carry licenses.
According to the Marietta Daily Journal, the legislation prohibits the state from creating and maintaining a database of licensed weapons carriers and repeals the state-required license for firearms dealers.

BAD LINK.
I don’t understand. It works when I click on it.
I’m a manufacturer / dealer in Georgia. The state firearms license that they’re getting rid of was just a paltry sum, basically a small tax, that gave you the right to sell handguns. Not a big deal, but glad it’s gone.
The big part they didn’t cover in that article is we can now hunt with suppressors. That’s going to increase demand in-state beyond what there already is, so the ATF transfer process is going to be pressed to keep up.
Well, it took me to Fox News, but the Fox site said “Page down” - so not sure .
depending on who is doing the dying, this may not be a bad thing
It worked fine for me just now. iPad, iOS 7.1 and Safari, fwiw.
GA FReeper ping. Good news here.
My state senator voted against this one. Another check in the minus column, and a rather big one.
It’s a conspiracy to keep me off the Fox News site

I lived in Manila back in the late 60’s. When you went to the movies or some restaurants, there were signs “We do not allow firearms on the premises. Please check at the door.”
Will the new law allow business owners to forbid carrying on their establishment?
Yes, they can still post signs, as they are a private business. Refusing to obey those signs is akin to trespassing, a very minor of fence.
My point was, the business owner is able to control his own property. Also, in the event of a shooting incident law suit, the owner can claim not liable,” I put up the sign.”
God I love this state.
It allows those with a license to carry to bring a gun into a bar without restriction and into some government buildings that don't have certain security measures. It also allows religious leaders to decide whether it's OK for a person with a carry license to bring a gun into their place of worship... school districts would now be able, if they wanted, to allow some employees to carry a firearm under certain conditions. The bill also eliminates the fingerprinting requirement for renewing weapons carry licenses... prohibits the state from creating and maintaining a database of licensed weapons carriers and repeals the state-required license for firearms dealers.
I’ve witnessed a gun-shop owner tell a cop that no loaded guns were allowed in the store as the cop entered.
Cop responded “but I’m a cop?”
Owner said “I don’t care”.
Yup! Ain’t the Peach State grand? (well in most aspects)....
“Democrats resisted the proposal, although they conceded it would pass in the GOP-dominated House of Representatives. They argued that allowing guns in more places will not make society safer and may lead to more deaths.”
Lead to the death of more Democrat-voting thugs, yes. They’re just trying to protect their own.

Cop went his own merry way....big deal...
Owner of that place doesn’t put up with crap, he’s an old man (probably a “dangerous scary vet”) and I’ve also seen him reject sales to your typical gang-banger lookalike since the clowns don’t know how to fill out a 4473.

Shouldn’t that be “restoring” gun rights?
